I can see your point Mark. However, to say people are putting fundraising nights on for personal gain is a bit offside.

Anything that is going to contribute to a good cause, i.e Tsunami Fundraiser night can only be a good thing.

mark i think your right about the gig side of things but when it comes to 280,000 people dead and a life time of rebuilding then a few months of charity isnt bad people will always be paying into cancer and childrens charities in this country but wrong to say stop!!! with the tsunami people wrong mate !!!

Can also come from the angle, which is better to organise a fundraiser like ourselves and many others have done or to just not bother ?

Your right we need a new crisis. I used to love watching the Iraq war on Sky news while eating my Sunday dinner, nothing like having your beef lunch while watching WAR LIVE. I have to admit I found the whole camcorder footage shots of Tsunami very tacky & dare I say it amateurish. Would love to see a rematch of the Metropltian Police V the pro hunting brigade, when the hunters became errr battered, that ruck made fooking outstanding TV.

Like someone else (Teknofish) said on another thread.... Its a bit ironic that we dont have a similar sense of social responsiblity when we invade other countries to secure oil supplies and kill 150k+ people, but everyone jumps on this 'crisis' with such passion.

Its a bit confusing how people pick and choose a worthy cause these days :spangled:

If 250K people dieing through a natural disaster is not a good cause then I do not know what is.

I agree that there are money grabbers who are jumping on the bandwagon and need to be sorted the fuck out. however, what is the total money raised by the aid effort now? 10 billion? With like 3 million dehoused or something, thats about 2000 each, to sort their whole life, home, business, whater out ( after overheads etc ). On top of that, add healthcare costs, lost production....there really is a huuuge need for cash in the affected areas, I think.

I think it's great that promoters are doing Charity gigs.

Naturally more attention and what have you it is a plus side for the promoters, venues and events in general (no matter how small), however, I feel that if there is a dummy in your mouth it shouldn't be spat because of the 'welcome side effects' of hosting a charity night.

Personally i think some (even if its not a large amount) of the money should go to cumbria and helping them with all the flooding that they had in the recent storms.

Theyve had many homes businesses and a large amount of farm land ruined yet will get very litte in the way of aid. And i was slightly disgusted that there was nothing much mentioned in the press over here about it all when its peoples lives ruined so much closer to home.

i think the intentions of the hardwick charity were honest and decent but this and all the charity gigs are ruined by the dj's announcing the gigs and forgetting the real reason behind them!!

using the death of thousands to promote yourself is as low as you can get in my eyes.
