quite alright, you gonna have the flyers ready for sat then?

paul, i would say dont worry about having one off night, theres tons of reasons people dont turn up, ranging from the competition, to your own night, to how fucked prospective punters got the night before, to the weather on the night! Theres only one of them you can control and if your doing that as well as possible it'll should work out (and if it doesnt then trance must be dead!)

he throws the bait and the pirhanas come out to feed.

Well put it this way, it aint the UNI and it aint within 5 mins walk of town.

Check the whats on at the end of this week.

I would be very interested in Fizz for the next one tho , between spring and October. Iam not sure I've met mr quick unless he goes to resistance or influence rather a lot.

I've checked out your web site tho...in the words of darth vader "most impressive"

Trance is always gona be there, just like all other genres are there (they are just targeted differently now to what they used to be). you just have to work on whether that is your main promotion and music policy. If its to promote a night sticking to trance only and abiding by it, then your going to have to ride any problems that come to you.

I do think tho that it isnt what it used to be. Its got too serious, everyone is scared to try something risky with productions in fear of it sounding like a 'galaxy' track or slightly commercial. Just a bit stale and samey samey for me.

Unless its unusually different , a saturday is ultra competitive

if TRANCE is dead in 6months time VUZZ are fU**ed

nah i just tell it how it is always. never a pessimist, never an optimist, always a realist.

people get washed over by their own thoughts and feelings about how well they are doing, whether that be successful or not going well, they have blurred vision and cos of this they see things or want to see things like they do. when in reality this is not the case.... im not saying thats what paul is doing with vuzz, its just the way i think. Lots of things come into the equation when your protective about something your passionate with.

I dont know about others but , arslicking is one hell of a major attribute one needs.

Like when you want a venue that the owner dont want to give you, go in and feed their ego and tell them you want to have a 21st birthday party for your niece who is going into a nunnery soon....rough translation "I think you are an idiot but give me this place to throw andall night skanky acid house rave in".

Worked so many times , I have concluded ass kissing does work.

How do you think some of your well known fave residents get their gigs

    (a) being good - probbaly not

    (b) giving all their party medicine to their boss for free- highlylikely

    (c) severe amounts ass kissing - very highly likely

but feeding the ego of venue owners when venues are in short supply is a hidden talent.

I agree it is very g*y to ass kiss for gigs but have a look about a lot of those getting gigs are people getting them due to the fact they run their own nights already. its a bit like an old boys network

Not trying to have a go at anything your doing Paul, but these are just some of my thoughts on this:-

It is still possible to run a successful new trance night, as Ahead have shown, so it cant completely be dieing. Some things to note though are that it isnt on very often, is in a perfectly sized venue (about 700 capacity i believe), lasts till 6am, and is better located (ie not in Newcastle).

Maybe not a great comparison. But one question is what are you trying to run? A bar night or a club night? There is a difference, and with it being a 1am finish, its not somewhere people go clubbing, and trance is essentially club music.

I personally think you should only put Vuzz on monthly, and it should be the middle weekend of each month, ie always being staggered 2 weeks away from Promise. People only have so much cash, and only want to get twatted so many times in a month. Possibly it would be better on a Friday too.

My own view also is that i see going to Vuzz as just goin for a few pints and a bit of banter. I dont see it as a club night where i will get smashed and dance for hours. In that regard, i dont really see trance as the ideal music. I would rather listen to prog in that situation, but thats probably just me.

At the end of the day, not enough people in Newcastle have decent taste. Take a look at Promise even, where every time in the last year they have gone for quality over 'pack the charvs in with a jules/eddie' its pulled 400-500. Examples are G&D night, Fleming/Ornadel night. Its just a very difficult city.
