If you're thinking about getting decks, then deffo get some. Usual advice really, spend as much as you can on decks (vinyl or CD:wink: ) as you can more easily upgrade the mixer. I spent 2 years umming and ah-ing. Once I'd got them, I never turned back. I've had many more hours enjoyment out of them than I ever thought I would. If you love music, go for it!

im not gonna go down the vinyl vs plastic route here, everyone knows my views on it already, so no need to go in to it again ;)

However, i do recomend to anyone who wants to take up DJing that they learn on vinyl first as its the most difficult yet most rewarding out of the two. That way if you want to use them both it will be alot easier in the long run.

They both have their advantages, however I favour Vinyl as I find you can do alot more with it and have more fun :)

I dont understand how vinyl is 'harder' than using cd's

either way you need to learn to beatmatch which is more about training your ears than using your hands... after all, your adjusting the pitch with one hand and touching the platter with the other, and thats the same with both vinyl and cd decks - Whats so harder with vinyl?

Also, what MORE can you do with vinyl over cdj's? Im intrigued.

vinyl is better for scratching with records being bigger than the size of the platter on cd decks :)

lol hes one of very few, think the only advantages could be that u can make your own samples easily and use them, and the needle couldnt possibly jump because their isnt one lol

but hip-hop and scratch djs still swear by vinyl, and they're some of the best technical djs in the world :D

ive only had a couple of goes on cdj's and they seem cool tho, just showing the other side of things ;)

    here we go again...

Unfortunatly or not as the case me be, most people who want to become or are a dj think all there is to it is to learn to beatmatch and thats it. turntables and cd players have a different feel to them, some cd players dont have a platter, and so a pitch button is used.

theres ALOT of platter tricks that cant be done on a cd player, aswell as needle dropping etc

Your obviously a CD DJ and hence the defensive attitude to it, you bought them cos you were told they would 'unleash your creativity' or some other bullshit like that, however, you cant unleash what you dont have - i say that as you would know what you can do on both bits of technology if you did.

I know fine well theres shit you can do with a cd player that you cant on a turntable, so we should leave it at that - like I've said, they both have their advantages in both respects.

Zabeila scratching? urm, if you can call it that, ok, it sounds like he is, but thats about it.

    *sigh*

i hate (bored with) this argument as much as everyone else, so i'll only take point from your last post ;)

this can be done with vinyl, its called needle dropping.

at a steady rate, ok.. but there is a mod to be able to do that, if u want to play your music backwards (?)

yes you can, its called beat juggling.

have u ever wondered why the artists put the track out at the speed they do?

    thats all for me :)

Well thats ok cos after this thread is done it seems you're all gonna be lying in a gutter somewhere

Bit of mixed feedback i've had here..

Going for cheap vinyl to start off with is good.. but not so good when it comes to wanting more out of my gear..

Starting off on a higher end set of turntables is better cos if I get into it it'll make it worthwhile and save me money upgrading, and if I come to sell it'll hold its value more. Only trouble is I have £7 in my bank atm and I only work part time :(

CDJ's would be a better choice over vinyl as technology is advancing...

I'm still a bit stuck here. Now I have to think about whether or not I want to go with vinyl or not. And whichever I go for, which models.

The whoever made me the offer for the str8-150's, I'm not gonna have £300 for a good while yet. This is gonna take a little bit of saving time.

I'm gonna take a look around for CDJ's.

I read that it's a good way to get ur mixing up to scratch (no pun intended) cos once u move to direct drive it's much easier. You can even do it standing on your head whilst winning an argument down the phone to your girlfriend!
