the womens cycling on the first day in the rain was well good i'm actually more interested in it than i thought i would be. at the moment, anyway...
im more interested merely because it's all over the BBC, the medalists so far tho: http://www.olympics.org.uk/beijing2008/GamesMedallists.aspx#gold
There are some awful sports to watch.... luckily cos of time dif im only seeing highlights which is more bare-able!! Seeing the last few 'key' runs in equestrian is much easier than watchin a whole set of heats
The Olympics are just a shower of shite now imo due to alllowing professionals into certain sports. Thats why i'll only watch the boxing.
Yeah I'd much rather watch people who aren't the best in the world compete against each other than watch those at the very top of human performance.
because they're all amateurs, no pro's allowed. in one respect thats why khan went down in my estimations slightly. after winning silver 4 years ago he said he would wait til after 2008 games to go pro as he wanted to win a gold for britain. that lasted until he was shown how much money he'd make from his first fight. cannot really hold it against him too much tho
Yeah Id go for it like! TBF the only sports at the Olympics that are 'real' professionals (ie get shitloads of money) are the footballers and tennis players. I dont know how much you get as an athlete but I know swimmers get fuck all
phelps needs testing to make sure he is all human & not part fish...he looks odd walking when you see him georgia's volleyball team are both brazilian rejects who the georgians fast tracked at citizens so they could complete
With grants/lottery cash + add ons the boxers are not 100% amateur. You only have to look at the lads in Olympics & see there pre-Olympic schedule to see no true amateur could do it & you look at build of them lads you only get like that if you full time.
Yeah they're full time "amateurs". The British boxers at the Olympics have received 25 grand each as a grant/wage in the year leading up to the games and over 50 grands worth of equipment, travelling expenses, training and advice, in addition to free private healthcare if they get injured. They have it far better and easier than many professionals.
