I stopped banking with HSBC cos they screw everything up all the time, not cos I got to speak to people in India (which I didnt when I stopped using that account. Its only been recently Ive got through to India).

Its not the fact the people are Indian that bothers me, Id get as pissed of if it was an English person that couldnt do what I was asking them to do. Its the fact that they dont understand what I want when I ring them and they always transfer me to the wrong department which wastes my time.

I only opened an account with Barclays cos I literally had no other choice. I needed an account for my pay to go into and nobody else would give me a basic account cos most banks dont have them anymore. I dont want overdrafts and debits cards and all the shit that goes with it

    From the BBC Website......

HSBC to cut 4,000 UK jobs

HSBC intends to switch work to Asia
High street bank HSBC has confirmed that it is cutting 4,000 jobs at its UK customer service centres over the next three years.
The job cuts are part of plans to transfer work to service centres in China, India and Malaysia, an HSBC spokeswoman told the BBC.

The jobs will be lost from sites in Swansea, Birmingham, Sheffield and Brentwood, according to bank workers' union UNIFI.

The bank said it would start transferring work to Asia from January 2004.

on a normal (if not extravagant) week in India i managed to live on 300 rupees a week...which is about £4 unless i went to the pub then add 1500 rupees (£20) but i think they charged more for females to drink]

good point about the language barriers tho....when i was living in india yup true most of the richer indians spoke english as its one of the top 3 official languages...i think it comes most popular after hindi ( in a country with about 200 languages) but even though i understood their english...i had to learn "indian english" to be able to make myself understood....its totally different grammar and vocab

i would love tot hink that these call centre jobs were in some way helping the extremely poor people i met but as only the higher *caste* (look up the indian caste system if u can be arsed) indians will be getting these jobs then i very much doubt it

India has an amazing culture/history/geography etc....but i cant imagine it shining in the call centre industry....bless it

I know that these companies will have mega discounted calls & some may use there own telephone lines, but if you get an incoming call KEEP THEM TALKING FOR AS LONG AS POSSIBLE.

Lets make the average call time rocket
Lets make the price of the calls go up

The operators in many call centers are trained in local dialects to make the client ffeel more comfortable..... so watch out for an indians interpretation of geordie

I would steal £100 off someone credit card, if I was paid £9 a month. So as you say " it's best to avoid the situation in the 1st place"

    these people being who?

    poor people?
    indian people?
    pakistani people?

    please elaaborate.

E-commerce wise indonesia used to have a terrible rep for credit card fraud however for someone living in say india to use a british credit card is extremely hard, granted they could sell that information on but why risk it?

I'd imagine a call center job wouldn't be seen as such a shitty job out there, why would they risk throwing away a good steady job?

There is no greater temptation... your actually dealing with educated intelligent people... not common cattle thieves.
