Well, it needs backing up daily, 2 servers (one spare), software updates applying regularly and about 20gig of bandwidth per month.

That will set you back a quid or two!

Do you think it could be made into a money making scheme for someone? Not millions, but just enough to keep that person intersested in keeping it going?

It's not that hard to charge people a little to use a board like this. Say £3 per year taken during singup via permium sms messages. We (I mean the company I work for not Promise) have talked to a couple of major message boards about doing this before but it's just not happened (yet).

Beyond that it's all about selling ad space which should not be all that hard with the right contacts.

I don't think it would ever make much money but I think it could wipe it's own arse so to speak. :)

I run the Northeastclublife.co.uk board, which is at times as busy as this one.

The messageboard itself is free, you just pay for hosting. I have a plan which is allows 100GB transfer a month. (Need a bit more as have downloads/main website traffic).

Just payed £56 for next year. (It cost me a bit more last year as got hammered in downloads).

Not as expensive as some people think.

And of course anyone is welcome on our board. I would also be open to the idea of creating a 'Trance' forum.

    :)

Could your company take over the running of it, selling Ad sppace to pay for the running of it, or does your company only run the technical side of it?

nah it aint that much to host a forum if its busy enough, if you look around on hosting then you'll find a good deal!

But yeah, Matts board is quality, good banter without the usual message board 'tards

I just hope some of the knobs off here don't go on and spoil it though, it's got almost a family atmosphere on Matt's board

You're not looking at the full picture mate. Good techies cost £20-£40 per hour. Either you are doing it yourself for free or you are skimping on backups etc.

It's not just about the cost of hosting.
