As the UK now has 2 budgets a year, new taxes & increased taxes would be in place before it had an effect on the Government income.

As far as I know, the taxes raised from duty on cigarettes more than cover the cost to the health service of smoking related diseases. So if people did stop buying cigarettes in the UK, taxes would go up on other things.

    Short term - yes
Long term - ???? I am not sure how much is spent on illness related to smoking or how much the government spend on anti smoking campaigns. Would they balance out l?

We should get fucking compensated for the bloody passive smoking and foul smoke.... the taxes aren't high enough I say.

You do get fucking compensated in that your taxes are ultimately lower.

I would agree with banning smoking in public places, but not privately owned places like pubs and clubs. For those it should be at the discretion of the owner.

they should be barred from pubs and clubs... or given a little fucking cupboard next to the toilets, at least it would get the riff raff off the dance floor.

i dont think smoking in public places is fair on those who dont smoke, those who do have a choice whether or not they want to give themselves lung cancer, those who dont, rarely get a choice, when im in a club or pub i dont have sum1 asking me if i mind if they spark up, they just do it, if u want to smoke there are lots of places you can do it, if u dont want to smoke, there practically nowhere u can get away from it. its everywhere, in our clubs, our pubs, on our streets.

it should be banned in public area's, those who want to kill themselves fine, do it in the privacy of your own home, dont do it around me.

p.s. yes, ok, im being hypocritical, but just because i smoke j's, doesbt mean i think its right for smokers to smoke in public!!

not a valid arguement as unlike tabs, transport is a vital part of society. It would fall apart without it, smoking wouldn't be missed, we'd be healthier and wealthier.

    smoking is just a mistake.

yes yor being very hypocritical but I do agree with the first half...

skag heads jacking up is less intrusive and offensive than smokers... should jacking up in public be legalised?

If non-smokers want somewhere to go that is non-smoking, then they should make themselves heard and get venues to change their policies. If enough people wanted it, then it would happen. The fact is though that no-one can be bothered to actually do something about it.

If you feel that strongly, do something about it rather than moan on message boards! ;)
