with the pension service being such a humongous place, there is always the option of simply ignoring the c**ts, whaey, tbqh, there arnt that many of them, there just seems to be a lot more middle aged peeps.

With most frowning upon my weekend activites, as I make sure they get the 'low-down'!!!

I dont even bother telling them what i get upto at the weekend they all think a good night out is a trip down the bigg markett then on to buffalo joes and finally baha. Tried to explain how good the warehouse party was the other week but they couldnt understand why dancing in a dirty warehouse til 6am was fun.

I work twilight so i might see you next week fella.

call centre work can be mind numbing specially if you have to hear complaints all day but at least you can hang the phone up or say youve got another call waiting to get rid of the old dears..
I work in a face to face environment and get a lot of old people coming in for things like isa's or other savings bonds and whilst i dont mind engaging in a bit of friendly banter, once you start them off you cant get rid of the cordoroy faced wingers ... you have to just sit and smile and weight for either the phone to ring , another customer to come or their pace maker battery to run out ... in fact ive had three this mornin already :spangled: Bless em !

The only place that IMO pays a decent wage is BT. I bet they wouldnt pay their staff as much if they all worked proper full time hours.

Bonus makes up for it until they reduce it, which companies always do and it gets harder and harder to make as much money.

Call centres are shit. They employ mostly numpties that havent got a clue. Take BT for example, when I went for my interview, I made a real effort, bought a suit specially and gave 110% in my interview but then realised afterwards that they were giving everyone a job cos they were desperate for staff. Management dont give a shit cos you dont get treat like a person, more like a statistic. Most places dont give you the training and development you need to do your job and then moan at you cos you dont hit your target all the time.

Eagle Star is by far the worst Ive worked in though. Or at least it was when I was there. Too many managers that were good mates with their superiors and got away with not doing the job they were supposed to. Until recently, so Ive heard, when they made all the managers re-apply for their jobs and most of them lost their jobs cos they weren't capable of doing it

I bet its still totally shit compared to what it was like when you started though. It was nice and simple then, you got paid for what you sold. There was no 'plan'. You got what you deserved. In the space of the year I was there they reduced it by about half. Seems to me that companies offer bonus to motivate their staff and then when people are doing well and earning lots of bonus, they take it away from them.

Eagle Star were exactly the same. Bonus started at about £5 a sale and 2 years later when I left it was about £1.20 per sale

It's too cheap for companies not to shift their call centres to India. Its easier for them to get staff and it costs them less to set it all up from scratch to run the ones theyve got over here.

Call centres IMO are the modern day equivalent of factory jobs. You do a shit job, get no thanks for it, get treat like shit and get shit pay. As long as theres people out there who are desperate for jobs and places for them to set them up where its cheap, they'll continue running them the same way. Why invest money in making it better over here when they can pay peanuts for someone overseas to do it and have plenty of people in this country who're willing to be stuck in a dead end job.

Fair enough, theres people who can progress in call centre work but cos of the amount of people you're up against and the amount of better jobs, most people don't have a chance

But when I started there, you could easily earn £3 or £4 per call. Thats a lot more than getting an extra £2 per hour.

I used to work 21 hours, get about £90 a week basic and be getting about the same amount of bonus as pay every month. Its hit compared to what it was

Empirically, the North east and Scotland were the places that companies shipped their labour intensive jobs to - like call centres and factory workers..... I wonder if the whole India thing will have bad implications for our region in the future eh.

It's just like the manufacturing industry is though. I work for a freight company now and we lose shit loads of business because companies are taking their manufacturing to other countries.

If theres a way of companies spending less on production or staff, they'll do it. I know I would if I had a business to run :D

our unions at work are fighting each other callin each other names in the news letter as ltsb are movin jobs to india but they claim they are new jobs that wont affect ours - yeah right,

middle aged people are bitter, because while you are doing a shit job coz you have college/you need to fund your drug habit, they do it coz they have no qualifications, and cant do anything else, have 7 kids and are too over the hill to do anything constructive. people on my training had never seen a computer before!

oh and do you not get old people who ring up and tell you the full details of how a family member had died?? "eeeh and they didnt find him till three days later, rotting in the bath that he slipped in" or "well three months ago he had a pain in his side, then he just dropped down dead one morning after making me a cuppa" christ its morbid, if i was ringing up a call centre i would tell anyone personal stuff like that!!!

in the long run I would say 3/4 of the call centres will be in difficulty. I have already lost one position to the Indians. I was at Sitel for the AA campaign making an easy 3 a week after tax. Then we got a brush off from the AA saying that our work was not up tio standard.
We find out the week after that the Indians have landed the contract and that they were gettin taught to speak "the queens english" as we signed on.

Oh and not to forget the days most important lesson of Eastenders and Corras while I leaf through the Chron.

I remember when I started doing the SOHO campaign. The bonus was class. Second lines and Home Highway were half price. My team spent a day on inbound and I made about £110 bonus in one day. I bet theres no way of getting anywhere near that now
