    Like 'thats me told'.

Traktor is as close to using a conventional set up as you're gonna get imo

You still have to adjust the pitch like on decks, with a pitch bend. The mixer is exactly the same as a real one. With a controller its the dogs :D

So what exactly does Ableton do. Ive heard the hype, and understand that it allows you to do on the hoof remixing but in terms of actually mixing, putting two track together is it not just a case of pressing a couple of buttons and it does it for you?

Also are you able to do solely production as in make a brand new track from start to finish.

Ive seen a few djs use it, PVD, Kuffdam, Sacha and Roni Size, and to be honest as Pete mentioned they look slightly silly sitting there not doing too much. In fact when i saw Roni Size he actually stopped the music for approx 10 minutes, before restarting, looked horrendous, sounded horrendous and was very unprofesional.

dont PVD and Roni Size uses Traktor

One example of Ableton use is that it allows you to create loops from tracks and combine them together to create new 'tracks'.

    e.g.

kick drum / bassline from one tracks
    acapella from another track
    additional percussion from another track
    acid line from another track
    synths from another track

you can use its midi capability to put in your own sounds aswell

alot of producers use it now when they are playing live, they load all the parts of their tracks into the sequencer and they can play new arrangements of their tracks

then you have all the VST effects you can use aswell

i also rate it as the best programme for doing edits of tracks (e.g. new arrangements, additional percussion etc)

its a great piece of software with a very easy learning curve

you dont really need to use headphones if you have all the loops setup already

depends if your more interested in what the music sounds like or what the dj is actually doing to make the music sound like that

    but i get your point

Traktor does not take the Djing out of Djing, the only thing that you dont do is 'ride' the record/cd...everything else is exactly the same, even then you can link it to final scratch if your hands get lonely ;)

yeah i use traktor, with a controller, its good, but i like to use vinyls and cd's 2

i like to see dj's use a variety of formats and show off their real skills

i'm not against ableton or any other laptop programme as you can do some wicked stuff on it

i just think seeing a dj play a set without headphones is wrong

Traktor is even easier than Ableton imo

all you do is set the playing record as the Master and the one youre cueing as the Slave and they stay in time no worries, theres even that button you press which puts them in time if they do go out.

Atleast you have to warp them in Ableton.
