As for my quayside apartment, I'd say I owe more to Wilsons education reforms, without Wilson we wouldn't have the educated and progressive nation that we have now... You seem to monitor a governments success purely on economic achievements.... I prefer to rate them on the stanard of life they provide for a nation... Brazil is a nation of great affluence - but its hardly a successful model.

Industrial nations like Germany managed to remain more prosperous than the UK without losing their industries. Nations like: Norway, Switzerland, Denmark, Iceland, Ireland, Austria, Belgium all have a higher standard of living than the UK (despite caught ground by a labour government).

With the advent of capitlism the west has experienced a massive growth curve which thatcher had no impact on, our neighbouring nations have all rode this wave - as have the UK - to credit the UK's current econimic postion to thatcher is insanity... she played a part in this, but there were far larger forces at play from the foundations that labour laid when looking after the people (education and health) to the rise of western capitalism. Thatcher playeda trivial role... she merely speeded up the inevitable (UK industry couldn't compete with foreign competitors)... Without labours education this populous would of remained unemployed - Wilson provided the british working class with an escape claus.
