i think live 7 has a global pitch bend in the bpm / groove / quantize / metronome block, top left

although that might only be useful for those mixing to and from ableton with decks - its too early to test :)

When i match them, it usually works quite well to zoom in on the track, drag it to the first beat, and then right click and 'warp straight from here' - use the metronome! another thing is to cut the start of the track to the first beat, using an mp3/wav splitter program... then every track is automatically at the first beat and you only have to drag the '1' to the start of the track...

    Persevere, its worth it!!

I may have to give this a shot, for some reson theres a lot more folk who I speak to using Ableton to produce & edit tracks, im always hitting brick walls with Logic without knowing anyone (at reasonable prices) to help me out.

there's some good tutorials out there for logic, but its like anything else, you have to learn to use it rather than look for the easy way around

i started using cakewalk (to make beats/loops) about 10 years ago and found it a bit shite, then moved on to cubase and got in to that a bit, but as soon as i looked at ableton, i was hooked - its so fast at everything, you just have to find a work flow that suites you, then you're away

i still do a lot of my audio editing in sound forge - i just find it faster for the way i work

i loved the learning curve of ableton for the first few months  :)

Thats my biggest downfall man, I have no patience, if I get stuck I cant pick up a book & take myself through things step by step, I need someone to show me until I can do it, or see a video until I can mimmick it. Silly I know as im always gunna be at the same level & get stuck with the same problems.

Im definitely gunna give Ableton 7 a blast I think, would Ableton recognise Virus's id use for Logic as normal?

i always thought ableton was a dj software not a production tool as well . i wonder how many djs make a killer demo on the software then turn up with cd;s/records,and just fuck up alot

its all about the music, but there is something about a dj not using headphones thats just wrong imo. Lets not get mixed up here, someone playing live with ableton is totally different to someone djing with it

like i've said i'm all for people using ableton to be creative, but how can you be creative and on the fly without headphones? it just makes it look like they are playing a set they've already recorded.

    Im glad you mentioned that!!!!!!!

I was there and although the music was good, the fact that he never even put a pair of headphones on his ears through the entire set was a total let down.

Granted, you dont even NEED to with ableton, but when a 'set' seems to comprise of a few fingers on a trackpad and some mouse clicks ..... maybe its time to go back in time a bit ;)

Back to my pipe and slippers.

You can warp loops and samples on the fly, you can use headphones with Ableton although theres really no need...

yeah but thats my point, i'd rather see someone putting some effort into it rather than just clicking away on a laptop
but thats just a personal view, like you said not everyone looks at the dj. so as long as the music coming out of the speakers is good then happy days (i've always said this).

Ableton is a wonderfull piece of kit and i've played around with it myself, there is just something about a dj not using headphones that i personally feel is wrong :p

I dont care how 'magic' ableton is...... Unless theres an option in it that magically adjusts eq's and the like pre-mix then someone is being lazy eh.

Being able to go from Eurythmics 'Sweet Dreams' to some offside acid house track was quite amazing mind ..... very powerful bit of kit! (And we danced to it as well!).
