Yakubu Portsmouth's Yakubu To Sign For NUFC In £7m Summer Deal? 26 Feb 2005 by Howaythetoon According to today's Independent he will be - with the paper reporting that Newcastle have agreed a £7m fee with Portsmouth to bring the highly rated centre-forward to the Toon in the close-season. Newcastle of course were tipped to sign the player in the January transfer window with various reports claiming he was available from anywhere between £6-10m. Graeme Souness even had the Nigerian striker watched and admitted he's a player who "interests" him - quoted saying the following on the 17th of January 2005: "Yakubu is one of several players who do interest me. "It's no secret that we have to replace the top man at the end of the season (Shearer), and whoever comes in is going to have a monumental task to fill one of his boots, never mind both. "Whether that's Yakubu, or whoever comes in, it's a difficult job."
