    Rich Carrick

28 year old Rich has been into electronic music for more than half his life, after discovering old Fantazia and Renaissance mixtapes at school and consequently becoming obsessed with 4/4 beats. Initially fascinated with prog, trance, Sasha and Digweed, Paul Oakenfold, Danny Rampling and others, Rich eventually calmed down a bit and discovered a love for deep house, the jackin’ sounds coming out of the US, and all in between – from Phuture to Phil Mison to MAW to Circulation to Tenaglia via dozens of other DJs, Rich found his musical niche in deep grooves and began spending money on vinyl in earnest.

Rich’s sets typically take in elements of all the music he likes, from tech to prog to deep to minimal to good old fashioned US boompty house – increasingly though he plays what he loosely terms as ‘warm up material’ – a tag he’s proud of. ‘There are hundreds of DJs who just hammer it out, but for me it’s about slowing things down, getting a funky groove going – sure, you can jack to music at 130 all night, but you’re knackered afterwards! – I prefer to warm things gradually and play tunes that people like, that they can take time listening to as the tempo slowly builds’.

Rich’s talents are becoming noticed – twice a runner up in the IDJ Magazine monthly ‘Raw Talent’ competition, he has also run his own nights, and played all over the UK and beyond. Recent gigs have taken in Sankey’s Soap and The Attic in Manchester, Rhythm Rooms in Hull, Basement in Middlesbrough and many of the local bars in Rich’s current home of Newcastle. He has also played in Amsterdam, and is hoping to start a night there in the coming months. Future gigs include Orange Corner in Ibiza, along with IDJ / Muzik top DJ, DJ Rice. There are also plans to start a radio show, after Rich featured on several other stations and websites – highlights including being billed on the same show as Paolo Mojo, for which Rich provided a warm up mix.

Rich is also busy in the studio and is close to finishing his first productions – there is already magazine interest and postitive encouragement from other DJs – expect to hear more on that front soon and keep your ears peeled…

    Tom Budden

Tom was first introduced to the realms of electronic music when hearing mixtapes from raves in the early 90's. It wasn't until hearing dj's such as Sasha spin classic sets at The Manor club near Bournemouth that he was hooked. He later went on to do some promotional work for the club which led him to his first gig back in '99.

During the past 6 years Tom has honed his djing skills and achieved what few dj's have managed to achieve in this time, by creating his own sound of deep & dubby tech-house together with breaks and techno!

Endorsements aplenty have come from all directions, most notably from dj wonderkid James Zabiela, who has mentioned Tom as 'best undiscovered dj' - DJ Magazine.

Alongside gigs at Full Moon parties in Thailand, Wire (Bedrock pre-party) and his own night 'FuturePhunk' in Salisbury, Tom has most recently played at Turnmills (London), New Years Eve on the 'now infamous' High Tide Boat Party, and alongside James Zabiela himself at his "Sound in Motion" cd launch party and their co-promoted night 'ALiVE' at Mono in Southampton. Recent guests to the ALiVE night have included Hernan Cattaneo among others.

    Si Quick

Si has been an obsessor of music in all forms since an early age (his first single was Bart Simpson - Do The Bartman) but it was the introduction of his sisters illegal rave tapes that first shaped his passion for dance music. Then when he started secondary school, he discovered that his school technician was selling rave tapes at dinnertime and its safe to say the £1 dinner money his mum gave him wasn't spent in the canteen.

From the early 90's Drum N Bass radio show 'One In The Jungle' to the DJ Magazine CD by Danny Tenaglia, Si spent alot of his teenage years trying to work out what exactly this music was that his sisters used to spend their weekends listening to. This along with his great love of bands like Oasis and Gene meant his education in music was stretched over a wide plain of genres.

It was at the age of 17 that he acquired his first set of decks, spending every friday night out at clubs listening to the likes of Andy Wetherall, Justin Robertson and Optoplan in his hometown of Aberdeen and then going back to his mates house to try and recreate what he had witnessed for the last 5 hours.

From the jacking chicago house of Derrick Carter and DJ Sneak to the progressive vibes of Sasha and Danny Tenaglia to the dubby house and breaks of Tyrant and H-Foundation to the wizardry like technical ability of James Zabiela, Si spent the next years exploring deeper and deeper into house music and expanding his growing collection of vinyl and cd's and developing an almost perverted relationship with his decks.

Making his first public appearence on the turntables in early 2004 in the manky yet perfect basement of the Stout Fiddler pub in Newcastle at the infamous Resistance night, Si went onto play local nights including Fragile, The Sounds Sessions and Hooked. It was in May 2004 that Si was asked by legendary local promoter, Danny Pattison to become resident for the new :habit night. Guests who have graced the :habit decks have included James Holden, Desyn Masiello, King Unique, Ben Watt, Silicone Soul and Funk D'Void amongst others. Further afield, Si has played in London for Resonance at Public Life and then again at the legendary, Ministry Of Sound which saw him on the same bill as hero, Derrick Carter. With Si having recently relocated to London, expect to see appearences at some of the capitals coolest events.

As time has moved on, Si's sound has changed but it will always contain the vital elements which first turned his head:

Originality, the right energy at the right time and those unknown magical ingredients which commands people to get their heads down and wiggle to the sound coming from the speakers.

'His style may be a riotous mix, but his talent on show is as evident as his arse crack is all night'

Chris King , DJ Mag, June 05
