there is no solution to Iraq. only least worst scenarios. one of those is begging syria and iran to help sort it out. They must be laughing their socks off at us. That's if they wear socks?

Any normal bloke sitting down with a cup of coffee could do better than our elected morons.

"Should we pay compensation to criminals for not giving them drugs in prison?"

    "No."

"Is the solution to terrorism in Iraq to ask nations we have accused many times this year of harboring and supporting terrorists, after we have diplomatically and financially isolated them and threatened them militarily to get them for us?"

    "Errrr no."

    It's all so simple.

They shouldn't recieve compensation as such, but they should have recieved methadone treatment in the first place in my opinion.

There is no 'solution' to Iraq, you're quite right.

Whilst we're there, we're targets, and fighting continues.
If we go, the other factions become targets and the fighting continues. If we separate the country into states for different groups, they'll find amongst themselves.

It's an unbridled disaster, but asking Iran and Syria to 'help out', after refusing to deal with them for so long is lunacy, because, quite simply, they won't, unless there's something major in it for them. It's in their interests to have our militaries tied up in Iraq.

Blair says the consquences of not are 'isolation'...errrm, they already are isolated, we've used every sanction, and it simply hasn't worked, and now we've got nothing.

The Iranians have been strengthened immeasurably by our flawed and irresponsible approach to Iraq.

well there is something major in it for them but we are now in such a mess that we have to get them to help out because they are the only ones who have a hope of stopping Iraqs total disintegration into anarchy.
    It's about the oil supplies.
    It always was.
we tried to take it by force and fell flat on our faces and now we are having to go cap in hand to the Iranians saying please can you make it so we can carry on getting the oil please.
How Tony Poodle is still prime minister is beyond me

Quite frankly, I want to sit the whole Middle East down one morning and read 'The God Delusion' to them.

Once they realise how little they're fighting over, once the terrorists learn that there isn't really any good evidence to suggest that there will be virgins waiting for them when they pull the fuse, once the Israelis realise that actually they're 99.99% genetically identical to the people of Gaza and that letting them sell their peppers might be a good idea, once the Sunni's and Shia's realise they're both wrong over whatever fairly inconsequentional difference in interpretations it is they're fighting over, once the Palestinians realise that who controls various historical sites isn't really the difference between life and death, I feel confident that things will quiet down a bit.

    Sussed.

I don't know the specifics but was under the impression that...

If there was an out of court settlement that would suggest they CPS / Home Office knew they were going to lose the case. The case itself relates to laws introduced by the EU and not our government does it not?

Just how on earth is this our governments fault???

Personally I think this country's gotten alot worse since the introduction of the human rights at. Its madness what people get away with because they say its human rights, and it seems to side with criminals and trouble makers more than anyone else. Its about time they had a rethink and got rid of it!

this had nothing to do with the human rights act. They were suing under a claim for medical negligence against the prison service. They would have won even if the human rights act never existed.
Don't beleive the hype against the human rights act. The people in power don't like it because it stops them getting away with pushing people around unfairly.
Which bit of the act do you disagree with?

your rights under the act are
    free elections
    free speech
    religious freedom
    right to own property
    right to education
    no torture
    no slavery
    no death penalty
    no prison without trial
    right to a fair trial
    freedom of assembly
    freedom to marry
no discrimination on race, religion or sexuality
