totally agree with u there, wot was the crack with taking myhre off? Putting Whitley on fooked it up for us, the midfield lost its shape and then he gave the penalty away the numpty!

Still top though with 2 hard away games to play at West Ham and Ipswich hopefully we can win at least one of them.

Apparently Myhre pulled a back muscle!

Yeah whitley was the death of us....midfield as u say totally lost shape and it filtered thru the team..we were all over!!

Be interesting if Ipswitch win tomorrow

Puts them 2 points behind us and we ply em on friday - tough/important game!!!

I'am not to sure you can criticise the substitutions to be honest mate, winning 1-0 with 20 minutes to go if you have a defensive minded midfield player on the bench you bring him on for an attacking player to try and shore up what you have, the thinking behind the substition was that with Whitley coming on we should be tighter in the middle and Whitehead going across to the right hand side would make us tighter, obviously that did not happen but in affect it should of if you know what i mean.

Big black veteran target man getting put on late in the game to cause havoc @ SOL was meant to be Brian Deane, instead Sir Les stole the show

When he came on Reading were 1-0 down, they changed the way they played & started lumping the long balls up-front to Sir Les & Kitson & Caldwell & Breen couldnt cope.

sorry i think its right to criticise the subs because the centre of midfield was dominating and was keeping it shape well, when he brought Whitley on Whitehead didnt know where he was, Robinson was left isolated and the balance had gone. MM should admit he made a mistake and get on with it.

but the introduction of veteran striker Les Ferdinand midway through the second half changed the face of a game the home side should have wrapped up by the interval.

    Source of Info:Sunderland-Mad

Both now 38, Ferdinand and Keown are required to ration their appearances but the erstwhile pair stepped off the bench to devastating effect,

    Source of Info: The Guardian

In liberating veterans Martin Keown and Les Ferdinand from the substitutes' bench, Reading's manager altered the topography of a game which had appeared well beyond the Royals' reach.

While Ferdinand's flick facilitated Dave Kitson's run and shot beyond Michael Ingham - a half-time replacement for the injured Thomas Myhre, whose pulled muscle may rule him out of next Sunday's all-important trip to Ipswich - Keown disrupted Sunderland's passing rhythm
