    The Future of Promise?

I'm just wondering what everyones thoughts are...

I never went to crasher when it was at the adelphi, did anyone? How much like Promise was it for atmosphere and shit...

The reason I ask is I think clubland goes in cycles, at first there were the big raves of the summer of love, then clubland went into a big lul the raves were shut down and clubs were left to cater for a dying scene, then in the late 90's there was another boom dunno what to call it but superclubs were born everyone headed for shefield tro paint mitsi's on their faces and wear dayglow clothes at crasher....

I think we've hit another lul, clubbing isn't as exciting as it was - its still fun but there isn't the wow factor anymore.... However you can go to the odd club that still blows you away some do it frequently some do it occasionally, an occasional example would be some of the hard house clubs like ss norf or insomz south - however these are getting old and forumalic now..... But for me Promise is rapidly progressing every night gets better and better, I'm not saying its going to be the next crasher but i do think its a club which is rappidly going to establish itself as one of the few fresh nights in the UK.

    Whats everyones thoughts?

(btw can u tell I'm trying to kill time so tonight comes quicker ;) )

i think last year - the rebirth of boring prog- really killed the point of clubbing.
clubbing is about everyone doin their own thing whatever their tastes and having a fucking good time. then people started telling us that if we didnt listen to one music style which was as exciting as a one to one with desmond lynam then we werent 'cool'.

things are now back on the up though clubs like promise taking note that 6 hours of progressive house is far too much, and playin
music styles that can really excite people and make clubbing fun again. :D

im not meanin to offend anyone just me 2 penny worth as i cant see the point in a night where the music is the same at 10pm as it is at 4am.

To me clubbing gets boring when too many people get snobby about music styles and the styles are too heavily defined. Last year for example there was a massive split between progressive, hard house and funky house (I know there are plenty of other styles, I'm just picking the really big ones).

This year things seem to be getting better as some of the styles come together a bit more, meaning DJs can play across genres. For example, a hard house set will often now take elements of hard trance and funkier hard house, making each set less monotonous. This seems to be happening across the board.

Also, I think some years you get a bigger influx of new clubbers, making the scene more exciting again as there's nothing more infectious than the enthusiasm of a new clubber!

Roll on 2002, may it be a good one with Promise at the forefront!

new genres are being created all the time... promise will rise as it clearly the best in the north east, and people are starting to realise that clubs like crasher and ministry are just up their own arses so far they can see their teeth. promise is full of friendly no-nonsence clubbers who are there to havefun rather than judge people on how they are dressed act or look. we need this kind of attitude to keep the clubbing scene alive....
wow i talk too much sometimes

    I totally agree!

Oh, and i was wondering why 'shindig' gets classed as 'underground'?? Does that make promise 'deep earth' with it not being as well known?

u have obviously never been started on by any of the beerboy twats there, i know a few cybers that refuse to wear it 2 promise cos of aggro that they've had, or have been given the impression they would get.
i personally feel the lineups are really good at promise and there is a good atmosphere in there, but i reckon it would be better off and more likely to grow as a nite at a different venue, as promise imo aint the nicest of clubs

I completely disagree, you saw me tonight I never got any bother at all... a couple fo sniggers but most people were full fo compliments... The beerboys in promsie have moved on we don't get the twats we just get people out for a good time... I always go incyber of some shape or form and I always have a good crack with random beer boys.

I've never even seen a fight in promise... but I've seen people knifed in insomniacz.

As far as the venue goes... no one moans about code which is just a bigger version fo code... I think the promise team (and richards mam ;) ) are really going for it eoith both the club and decor... I can't wait for the new room.

    I completely disagree - I fooking love promise :p

promise is getting bigger and bigger...it kinda feels like a little club at the mo but i think soon it will become huge!

as ive said before though...the only problem i have with it is the venue, it seems too small and especially on the nites where its open till later, i do sometimes get bored. however with a third room bein added maybe that will change!

gotta say, usually i dont think much of the lighting at promise but last nite it seemed particulary pretty!:D i was full of "ooohs" and "ahhhs":D

i dont worry about beer boys in promise...it did used to seem that it was chocka block wif em but not anymore

    i likes promise me:p

...infact i would go as far to say i bloody love it! plus it kicks the poo out of sugarshack which has gotta be a good thing!

there is a new room opening on the thirdfloor later this year... I don't know all the details but rumour has it it will either be the new funky house room or a VIP room.... leaving a total of 3 rooms... however dunno all the details... but I'm sure mark will keep us posted.

Out of all the time i have been going to promise, which is pretty much since the beggining, it now
seems to be getting a bit bigger, and becoming a force to be reconded with. Now the music policy is
a bit tranceir, and the 'new crowd' have started to come, it feels like it could get to become really big. But
i dont think foundation is the place for it. Its a bit of a bad club....well, its not that bad, but its not amazing either.
And i know its REALLY difficult for promoters to get their own club.....
I reckon promise will continue to get more and more popular, but i reckon by the end of this year, or even before, a new club would be the way to go. Im getting bored of foundation...and i think lots of people will be tooo.

but promise is cool....and i like the new crowd..... :)

At the end of the day is the venue that important? look what happened with the hacienda, they spent millions on the venue and it went bust... then look at cream, a big dank dirty warehouse - they prolly spent a fraction on the venue and its still huge!

I think a refurbishment wouldn't go a miss as well as something fancy with the lighting, but now richards mam is on the case who knows ;) :D

I think the new room should inject some fun into the club... but I don't think the venue makes or breaks the club... but I agree with you I think it is time for some changes... even if its just richards mam making some well nice curtains :D
