The Cluny going the same way as The Cooperage/Foundation? http://www.kyeo.tv/2010/09/20/outrage-as-live-music-threatened-in-newcastle/ Doesn't look good for The Cluny and The Ship Inn...
This is a joke like, The block parties were (and possibly still are) threatened by the council trying to shut them down. If you buy a house in the city centre you should expect noise and to be around noisy things, after all this is where people come to work and to go out an enjoy them selves. Even when block parties, band practise/bands playing at the Cluny or the Ship or even the rehearsal rooms it snot so loud that it would become a nuisance. Wankers
If someone builds next to a club or music venue they should have it written into their planning permission that they can't object to the noise once its built, They are moving to somewhere or building next to noise already, You wouldn't buy a plot of land next to a busy railway line build a house then complain that trains go past so why should you be able do so if you bought one next to a music venue.
Residents will win, Newcastle City Council hate live music and will bosh any licences they can in a heart beat. Money from developers for the land, money from residents council tax fees, etc. Once they're in the inevitable complaints will start - game over. Foundation all over again.
here....they didnt fight in the war to give us the freedom and way of life we have or to actually go out and enjoy ourselves without persecution.... oh hang on, they did no pleasing some people like
Its the only nice place left in this city Fucking sell out fucking council backhanders win again. As if there isnt option further down the vally. Another nail in the coffin of this place. I have to listen to fucking afican drums coming from Heaton school on a weekend they have fucking some sort of zulu band practise going on there I am going to report them fuckers!
Speaking of the coop, I see it's open this morning and there's a team in renovating it. Re-open job perhaps?
The Cooperage? I went past yesterday and didnt notice anything, I hope it opens back up. A year or two ago i cant remember which night was on in the cooperage but as usual it was proper loud inside, i was in one of the flats next door with a balcony and it was about half 12ish, the music was loud and you could hear it from the balcony but soon as you shut the door you could hardly hear it. The beeping from the traffic was worse so i dont see why the complaints were so bad. Its a city centre renowned for its nightlife so its kinda expected its going to be noisy.
i read somewhere a while back that new developments in city centres and other similar locations must include reasonable sound-proofing before planning permission is granted. it would be interesting to know what the deem "reasonable"
As of last weekend the coop has a shiny new sign on it and seems to be getting done out. Hopefully it's coming back
