Ive always bin at Barclays n they've always sorted stuff out straight away, overdrafts av been no problem either.

I know of alot of ppl who open accounts at HSBC n NatWest cos of the gifts you get and have changed to Barclays within 6 months cos the above 2 piss u about

Fucking research in advance?!! what kind of student are you? just wait 'til freshers' week, see what all the banks are offering then. If you open an account too soon you'll miss the free gifts etc.

I managed to open 3 accounts when i was a 1st yr, got a discman from natwest, a four year rail card from midland, and a free mobile phone from barclays!! Opened a barclaycard a few months ago just to get the free popcorn machine!!

Good fun blagging banks for free stuff! :groovy:

i'm with lloyds and the best advice i can give you is don't get an overdraft. you'll end up living in it.. i managed to avoid having an overdraft yet so many of my friends have £1000's of pounds owing in overdrafts credit cards & loans.

if your frugel you'll be just fine, if you go out and get wasted everynight you'll live in debt for your entire time @ uni.

I agree...instead of an overdraft i got a part time job. I get the extra cash i need plus i really enjoy it and have met a lot more ppl, as well as boosting my cv!

got 1 wid hsbc an 1 wid lloyds..

hsbc are minto an are very reasonable... i would reccomend gettin 1where u have a rising overdraft cos it keeps u in control a lot more.. but then after 4yrs i owe 4k in 2accounts + 4cc's so im prob not the 1to comment on bein in control of ur finances.. :monkey: :D

oh and DO NOT GET A CREDIT CARD, EVER

Whatever you do don't go with Barclays, they are without the worst bank in England. I rate them up there with Microsoft & BT. corporate money grabbing monsters.

Barclays has the worst customer service I have ever encountered.

Nat West offer a much more customer friendly approach and even offer a Telephone contact for the local branch. Use Barclays and you with be speaking to some Indian............

think it jus depends on the branch you go to, cos the one in the centre of leeds is well evil, they have no time for any1...
