St. George's Day - a National Holiday! There is a chance the public can make St Georges Day a public holiday Click on the link below to vote, the site needs at least 30,000 votes for the government to take it seriously and give us another holiday... http://www.stgeorgesday.com/voting.asp St. George is the patron saint of England. His emblem and ours, a red cross on a white background, is the flag of England. It was adopted by Richard The Lionheart and brought to England in the 12th century. The king's soldiers wore it on their tunics to avoid confusion in battle. St. George's Day is on April 23rd, so, in a sense, this is England's National Day. Winston Churchill wrote "There is a forgotten, nay almost forbidden word, which means more to me than any other. That word is ENGLAND."
I reckon there should be at least 3 more public holidays (8 is pathetic compared to other countries) but I couldn't give a monkeys what days they were
Re: St. George's Day - a National Holiday! If there is going to be a Public holiday let only the people who are proud to be ENGLISH have it ! We are not british, we are English!
I think all parts of Britain should have the day off to celebrate there patrons day & as the UK has less bank holidays than most of Europe it should be done or we move an existing bank holidays to accommodate these days
anything for another day off wasnt st george turkish and had never even set foot in England? funny patron saint to have
Voted. We should definately have more public holidays. One sometime in july wouldn't go a miss, as it is near enough three months wait from Spring Bank Holiday till August BH. St George's Day should also be a new BH as well
St Georges Day should def be a bank holiday. And one in October - From June 1st to Dec 24th (over 6 months) there is currently only ONE bank Holiday
