where have you got that tosh from? There would be a riot if we swapped JD for Carlton Cole unless there was at least 25M coming along with him.
JD will not be playing for spurs come the summer it is obvious. hasn't he just swapped agents to the guy who took sol campbel away from spurs?
that's a very presumptous statement Its one i could make equally about Stewart Downing. I would expect Defoe to hang around at least another 12 months given his age. And if we qualify for the champions league next season then there's no reason for him to leave correct JD is in the process of switching agents, from SFX to Sky Andrews. Sky Andrews did not 'take' Scumpbell away from us. There was only one man who did that, judas himself  Sky Andrews negotiates the best possible deal for his client and acts on his wishes.
it wouldn't suprise me if downing left in the summer. the big three usually bully and get whoever they want, trust me if any of them want a player in your team i feel there is little you can do. look at gerrard at liverpool and how close he came to leaving, does defoe love spurs like gerrard loves liverpool? if so your ok, if not i would worry.
I would imagine Charlton & West Ham thought he would 'hang around'. No reason for him to leave? If the Chelski are offering 50 to 75k + champions league football he is going to go ain't he? SFX only want him because they know that the Russians Blues want him & they can make a six figure sum within 5 to 6 months of him joining him them.
Defoe's best mate in football is Wright-Phillips & they both used to go to go & watch Arsenal all the time, I would be shocked if Wegner signed either of them as he is not that keen on small players.
to the rest of you... i am well aware of Defoe's past history. He is a mercenary like most modern-day footballers. He has no 'love' for Spurs and we are a stepping-stone. Suggestions that he will leave in the summer are premature though. I think we can match his ambitions certainly for another season at least. But he will go eventually. The fact he's on a long contract and that Chelski have all those millions behind them mean that we are in a strong position when it comes to commanding a fee. I would expect if his form continues that we'll get 25M minimum for him
with relevance to defoe or not, i dont think you can really ask for too much loyaly in football when there are big £££ to be made and the chance of proving yourself at a higher level. if someone offered me an opportunity like that i would bite their hand off... its natural, why are footballers any different when people are willing to pay well over the odds?
