    Pride

Does anyone know the crack with Pride since Zuffa bought it, have they just stopped pride altogether now???

    Re: Pride

Pride finished when Zuffa brought it out! Its fighters have all went to Prides rival Japanese organisations or have signed to the UFC. Youd think that it would leave a big hole in Japanese mma but smaller companys quickly filled the void. Fedor is still in limbo but rumour has it him and Couture are close to organising a fight with an organisation (dont know who though), but its said that it definately wont be with the UFC.

    Re: Re: Pride

I read that they were in talks with world extreme cagefighting, its a shame like as some pride fights were top notch seems a waste for zuffa to buy it just to kill of the competition, surelty they could have ran in sync

Yeah it's well gone which is a shame. It's been odd since a lot of them moved to the ufc, apart from Jackson most of them have fell on their arses, most the fighters Shogun especially looked very unfit and out of shape and lack any sort of agressiveness, the doping tests in pride were very laxed though in comparison to the ufc and it's well known fighters were on the juice there.

What about Nogeira? Hes had success. Anderson Silva left Pride before well before it finished and he's doing great.

I think it has a lot to do with the rules - elbows werent allowed in Pride where as soccer kicks and foot stomps were, something which would earn you a dq in ufc rules. The biggest challenge for ex Pride fighters is adjusting to the octagon after being used to a ring with ropes.

You could blame them failing on the poor preparation. Cro Cop confessed to not training using elbows and an octagon to adjust and got smashed up for it.

Is Lyoto Machida ex Pride? That bloke is an amazing fighter - cant wait to see him fight Tito Ortiz!

His stand up is top notch, i cant see anyone beating him there. His ground game is good but someone with a good wrestling base like Ortiz is most likely to give him the most trouble so itll be interesting to see how the fight pans out.

haha did you watch that fight? he was getting a total hiding, it was his ju-jitsu which saved him in the end.

And i agree on the open guard rules made pride totally different, but it's been the conditioning thats surprised me about most the fighters, shogun was rated top light heavyweight in the world yet was nackered by the second round.

And silva has had fights in loads of different organisations and held belts so you can't really say he's switched over night.

I just think the level or competitors is alot higher in the ufc, yes price was more full on but a lot of their fighters lack ground skills because as soon as an opponent went to ground the other would try a stomp/soccer kick rather than go down and win through submission.

Nogeira is famous for taking beatings then pulling a submission from nowhere. His fight with Cro Cop in Pride was similar to the one with Sylvia. There both bad match ups for him imo.

Pride fights were really exciting because the action was faster due to the ring being much smaller than the octagon.

Personally i wouldnt say Pride's top names were better fighters than the UFC's just that they had more top 10 lhw & hw fighters in their organisation.

There should be a governing body in mma that forces different organisations to use the same rules (and do away with rings) that way fighters dont have any excuses and get a fairer fight.

I thought there was room for both organisations and both sets of rules, the best fighters would be able to adapt, however UFC has much better rules for ground fighters and as entertaining as it is to watch soccer kicks are a bit rough like

Totally! All the people that are against mma would use rules like that to justify their points! I even think elbows are a bit rough - theres nothing technical about it all. 5 rounds of watching someone like Hughes holding someone down and dishing elbows out is pretty boring anyways.

mate i train in mma and thai boxing, and elbows are a great technical strike lol it's meant to be tough, i doubt people would be into it if everyone got wrapped up in cotton wool and the rules were tame.

Theres a big legal case going on surrounding the sale of Pride to Zuffa as Zuffa claim they were ripped off from the sale as the assets weren't near what they paid for, theres also a case going ahead as the former owners of Pride have set up a new promotion called Dream. I think Cro Cop just fought for them a few weeks ago.

It's his height and monkey arms. If he was 6'2 with average length arms he'd have been a UFC outcast years ago. He doesn't have much technique other than his jabs imo.

Hows that coming about? i thought the reason Couture retired was because Fedor joined another organization meaning they couldn't fight? I hate Sylvia anyways he's a big pudding imo lol.

Sylvia is out of his UFC contract now. He's signed with Adrenaline MMA (which let fighters fight in other organizations too), and Fedor has just left M-1 Global so he's free to do whatever he wants now.

There are mixed reports of this fight happening on July 19th. Fedor has apparently confirmed he will fight and is gonna train hard etc etc but Sylvia's camp deny that anything has been signed.. but neither fighter appears to have any objections to this fight taking place.
