Man UTD Help Leeds!!!! (SORT OF)

Manchester United have agreed to pay Leeds £1.5million as the final settlement on Rio Ferdinand's transfer to Old Trafford - though they owe £3.25m.

The England defender joined United in July 2002 for a fee then agreed as £29.3million.

However, crisis club Leeds, who have until 5pm on Friday to raise £5million which would satisfy creditors until the end of the season, have accepted a reduced amount instead of the £3.25million still outstanding on the deal which would have been paid in instalments.

It means Leeds chief executive Trevor Birch is a step closer to helping the Elland Road club avoid administration.

In a statement to the Stock Exchange, United announced: ``Manchester United has agreed to pay to Leeds United FC, via the FAPL (Premier League), tomorrow #1.5million in full and final settlement of the deferred conditional sums due on the Rio Ferdinand transfer totalling £3.25 million.

it's a fairly common way of settling debts for businesses with cashflow problems. i'm suprised leeds had not looked into avenues such as this until now, just further highlights the lack of competance within the leeds board of directors.

it will not be long till they fold now, and being a boro fan and knowing what we went through in 1982, i actually feel quite sad for the leeds fans.

would be daft not to do so, leeds need to raise £5 million to cover running costs till the end of the season. looks like they are gonna get some wedge from us for danny mills, and coupled with a possibility of money from the woodgate xfer might just save them?

troubled times at leeds for sure.
