I have only been going for the past year or so, I cant really comment on the changes.
I think that Promise is class though, I enjoy myself everytime I go (most weeks). U need variety in music to run a sucessful night, especially in Newcastle IMO:)

    learn your history.

Promise launched with the likes of anne savage.

It has always had a broad variety of music.... It hasn't changed that much.

It went through loads of phases and instead of ditching them all and jumping from band wagon to band wagon, it has kept the succesful elements and evolved into the club it is today.

where else can u hear.... prog, hard house, trance, hard trance, techno, prog trance, acid trance, german trance, bongos, funky house, deep house, us house, garage, chicago house, ok I'm bored now but u get the picture :D

For those of us not in the know how has it changed and developed - a short history perhaps?

I presumed it had always been a trance/hard dance night... sorry.

my thoughts too ive being going 2 promise 4 nearly 3 years now and ive seen a much greater variety of dj's in the 3years going they than i would have at other clubs. i mean ive seen sasha play promise and lab4 dont know another club were i would have seen that.

I think its changed for the better. When I started going it was too proggy for my liking (i know, but u've gotta have variety). Now I think it has a good mix with the prog style warm up then thru to trancey/harder stuffs.

I think Promise has changed over the past 3 yrs alot!!!

I have been going to promise since it opened seems like a long time ago now..

I remember the first time i entered the club and thought wow at last UNDERGROUND!!.

now promise has developed greatly, some people think for the best, some people think for the worst.
I personally think the night has just evolved .... Yeah at first it was new it was different but evan back then Promise were still booking the same sort of djs as they are now!! bar from 1 or 2,
The people keep saying theres no variation anymore, but i think personally you will be hard pushed to get a night as good as promise on your doorstep..

And as much as variation goes OPEN YOUR FUCKING EYES!!! you will not get much better VARIATION any where else in the u.k.

Promise as mark sais has some really big things lined up for the future, some massive events, teaming up with some of the biggest names in clubland....

Some of you need to wake up and open your eyes to what we have got..

Well done promise KEEP IT UP !!!
    Neil..

in my opinion, its changed a bit too much

from jan 2001- about may 2002, in my opinion it was ace

from the good proggier djs ( dave seaman, nick warren, anthony pappa) to a bit a trance ( ornadel, van dyk, bond) was just how i loved it

i had some amazing nights when it was a good prog warm up dj (max graham, slacker), then someone nice and trancy like guy ornadel
thats when i went nearly every week

now, when i see names like scot project, yoji, shokk, rob tissera, im just not that bothered cos i dont like hard house

its hard to believe it was once a prog/trance club, now its just about a hard house club

when i used to see warren, seaman, ornadel, around the time i said, it was never quiet, always busy

it does seem funny tho. when lab4 were playing sum of the hardest music ive ever heard in a club i found it hard 2 believe it was less than 2 years ago sasha graced the decks.

i think its gud tho how may quality dj's promise has brought 2 newcastle. such a diverse range as well. i mean pvd, sasha, mauro picotto made they newcastle debut's in promise.

Yes mate i to used to prefer the more trancier nights, but we have to keep moving with the times, IMO i think clubbing and music is going through the changing period as it has done many times before. music and clubbing will continue to struggle untill it has found out where it wants to be.

A defo change is happening, where it will end up nobody knows?
