    Good start ???

Chelsea midfielder Scott Parker will arrive at Newcastle United on Monday for a medical after agreeing personal terms over a £6.5m switch to Tyneside.

Graeme Souness ha sbeen showing interest in the midfielder for a number of weeks now, and appears to have captured Parker ahead of Everton and Tottenham.

While Evertone are in next season's Champions League, it is understood that they would have been unable to match Parker's wage demands.

Reports claim that Newcastle have reached an agreement with Parker and the midfielder is set to undergo a medical at St James' Park on Monday and sign a deal with the club.

Great signing IMO and hopefully the start of a complete reshuffle at the toon

We are still a much bigger club than them two! If we could get our team going in the right direction then we have have the potential to be as big as anyone quite easily! Plus we can give him the same wage as Chelsea were, that's the real reason most likely!

Parker is a risk - not proven class. He has had one good half season for Charlton and a bit part for Chelsea.

I hope he proves me wrong though.

    Parker is a good player.

He had more than just half a good season for Charlton Craig. Consistently improved over several seasons, bacame more and more dominant.

Had injuries at Chelsea. If we sign him, lets hope he can rediscover the level he was at.

So your trying to say that Newcastle are not a bigger club? We've got an absolutley massive fan base, much bigger than Spurs. I'd love to see 12k Spurs fans at Inter Milan if you's ever got in the Champions League!

yeah mate we have - as simple as that
newcastle is an average sized city in the UK. You have a massive local fan base. This is increased by the fact you only have 1 club in the city. Outside of the city you have very few fans.
Spurs have a massive fan base both within London and its suburbs and also worldwide due to our history and tradition. Facts not opinions ;)
If we don't get our act together son though our numbers will start to dwindle. i'm aware of that.

We have a massive local fan base. We have loads of fans from the top of North Yorkshire all the way to Carlisle, then upto Berwick! If you ever go to a Newcastle away game, especially in London, but also the Midlands, etc, there is always loads of Southerners at the games in the away end! Newcastle gathered thousands of fans in the Keegan era, and most have stayed with us. So to say that Spurs have more fans than us is a joke tbh! Your fans, at least in the short term will only ever decrease with the likes of Chelsea + Arsenal in London! We have been the 2nd biggest club in the land for a long time, until Chelsea and the Russian game along

I sort of agree with CB in a way though. Charlton were a very average team, and Parker was easily there best player, so he was obvioulsy going to stick out a mile! If he's going to play half of our games like the rest of the fucking puffs, then I don't want him! He's going to be getting 55k a week, and I just hope he proves to be worth it!

we'll have to agree to disagree then. We've had a massive fan base for more than 10 years  Spurs built their fan base from the stylish teams in the 50s/60s and 80s.

Don't think that Chelsea have a massive fan base either - they've got money and some jonny comelatelys who discovered football was fashionable after euro 96. chelsea DO NOT have more fans than spurs or arsenal.

spurs also have a superb away support - we sell out our allocation wherever we go. just look at the game up here this season - sunday afternoon on tv - spurs bring 5k

And financially we still make the top 20 richest clubs despite having never played in the champs league. It just goes to show what we would achieve if we were successful.

I'm not saying Chelsea have more fans. I'm saying that Spurs will not be attracting fans to support them atm, with the likes of Arsenal + Chelsea doing so well atm in the Capital.

We would easily sell out any quarter final anywhere. 5k up here for that game is nothing tbh. See if you's would take over 12k to Milan! That's commitment!

I know Spurs are a masive club, and were always known as one of the big 5. But I can't honestly believe you think your bigger than us now. We have the potential to be the biggest club in the UK if we could get it right on the pitch. Everything is in place tbh, apart from a class team. If we had of won the title when we should of, God know's where we would of been now. I know for a fact we wouldn't of done a Blackburn!

    Miller your wrong here mate.

Newcastle were a massive club and everyones 2nd team, but gone are those days. Spurs is a bigger and more sucessful club than us.

until we git rid of Souness and Shepard we can only expect the worse for nufc. :(

I know that. That wasn't the point I was making. It was about Parker looking very good in a very average Charlton side

Shepard isn't that bad tbh. He's pretty much backed every manager we've had, that's all you can ask really. I bet fans at Villa, Charlton, Fulham, etc would happily swap him for there chairman.

I still can't agree that Spurs are bigger than us. Would they of sold all there tickets for Cardiff? We have a much bigger stadium. We have a much bigger turnover!

you have a bigger turnover because of the bigger stadium!
believe me we would've sold out for Cardiff. I remember trying to get tickets for the league cup final a few years back and they were like gold dust - impossible to get hold of - and i'm a club member.
