Mine only lets me do that if i have money in. I can go into the -£'s even tho I dont have an overdraft. I get fined £25 if I go over -£5 though.

    Re: Debit Cards

It's an "unauthorised overdraft" and you can be charged up to £30

    Banks love it.

What i dont get is, the less money you have, the more your bank tries to rip you :spangled:

Not sure how true this is, but only 1 in 10 debit transcations checks your account has funds before it is processed - usually the time when it takes ages to go through. Could be bollox tho:confused:

Reclined with my feet up !
My bank would charge me £30 for authoriseing a payment that would take me over my overdraft limit , then if i dont get the payment put right ( i.e so its back within my allowed limit ) within 1 or 2 days i get a further £28 charge !!

Total bollox if i havent got it then they shudnt let me spend it ffs

visa electron cards r usually given out to ppl who either hav problems with their acc and cant hav a debit card, earn under bout 250 quid a month or aged 16-18.

they cant guarentee checks and until recently they usually were not accepted over the phone or internet, hence called electron as could only b swiped in shops.

the chip and pin is just for security so all new cards r being issued with this on.

so it is not new

Chip and Pin only really took off in 04...

the point remains that a Visa Electron and a Solo card are still different.

Solo is part of Switch. Electron, funnily enough, part of Visa. Two seperate card suppliers altogether.

    You a shop manager??

Visa Electron is phasing out Solo ... I cant believe people dont know this! And like Solo its the account you have when you hit 16 that takes over from the kiddy account.

Chip and pin are featured on every new card but Solo and Switch cards arent being issued at all. Its Visa Electron and Maestro cards in their place.
