    Christmas - Crap?

Anyone else here think that christmas is a waste of time these days... Seems like we spend weeks building up to what ends up as essentially an embrace of greed and capitalism.

I hate christmas presents - I didnt earn them and i could buy anything i want anyways as and when i want them.

Much prefer christmas for the friends, the family and being "together"... instead of all the other fluff that society and the media tell you.

Anyone else here sick of how greedy christmas has become?

(someone move this to the general forums please :) )

brid mate, i ain't feelin the love here... the past few weeks your posts have been decidedly 'down beat' - have u been dumped by your girlfriend?

if u need a hug mate, i'm awaiting!

admittedly it's been taken over by corporate bullshit - but it's christmas!! the time of year when there's so many nights out to go on, comedy santa hats down the quayside, the chavers asking for "15p to get home" have got glitter in their hair - you gotta love it! i - for one - am looking forward to chrimbo - and i fooking love presents!

    get in.

Having moved away from all my family I'm really looking forward to going back home for it. I normally don't get involved and just get hammered so this year I'm looking forward to getting in amongst the spirit of things.

you've got a point... gives us something to talk about - too many people being positive and the board would be sickly sweet.

Christmas time is by far the best time of year for my family.

The whole back end of December is a Celebration really. My birthday, Christmas, Boxing Day, my Nan's birthday.

    Presents rock

As do those bacon & cheese roll things you get from Marks & Spencer

I love christmas. It goes a bit stale when you're about 20-25 but I reckon thats just the delayed shock from not getting everything you want an getting socks, kegs & Insignia giftsets ("Create a buzz not a hummmmm").
These days, I love seeing peoples reactions when you've give them a present they really like.
It's also funny when our lass's Gran makes a big deal about how "Beootifool" her gift is when you can tell she hasn't got a clue what it is/does. Class.
I can't wait. The tree is going up before December this year!!

i havn't had a traditional xmas in the sense of decorating the house, sitting round eating xmas dinner and visiting all the relatives since i was maybe 12/13.

since then as a family we just go for a few weeks holiday every xmas and new year. the disadvantages are no presents at xmas and non of your mates on new year, but i've experienced new years eve in so many amazing place's i wouldn't change the way we celebrate it for anything.

and for all the anti-US amongst you, new york is the undisputed best place on the earth to spend new years eve. :D

    what I hate about christmas.......

the unrelenting advertising starts in september and its fuckin everywhere

unbearably jolly songs piped everywhere you go

taste & style go out the window for a month..... most of the year only Kerry likes glitter and everyone else hates it, then all december fucking everything and everywhere is shiny glittery and tinselly

sainsburys/tescos/argos/index/boots fucking everyone has gift guides of overpriced overpackaged (usually glittery) stuff that don't cut the mustard.... pit spray and shower gel in a box I'd give to someone I don't give a fuck about, not my nearest and dearest

"Ideal christmas gift" no it's not its fuckin tat in a shiny box

all the false wishing your workmates, who you've spent all year slagging off behind their backs, a merry xmas and a happy new year.... lets face it these are just people you work with, you don't like them much and don't really care about them.

expensive nuts, sweets, cakes and all the other shit that pack the aisles of all the supermarkets (usually in tacky shiny boxes :p ) if we really liked this shit we'd buy it year round

and then at the end of it all, by xmas day we're usually too knacked from non-stop shopping, getting at all ready and driving round non-stop between realtives to even enjoy it properly!

apart from that it's ok :D

If it was all toned down about 90% would be 10 times better

Top of my gripe list is the pressure from all around making it look like spending money on someone is the only way to show you care.

Unfortunately theres far too many greedy people in this world who never grow out of that stage.
