Alot of americans are very homophobic. When the local elections are on you get advert after advert on TV from the candidates...alot of them have a main policy to do with "getting homosexual teachers out of schools" etc

I fell out with alot of american chums about it on NYE this year lol

think about it....you think bush would come out with this is the general opinion of americans would be in uproar? just before the general election? hardly....he's pleasing the public....grrrr

I don't understand why homosexuality is an issue anymore... If you are gay, you are gay... simple as. I'm not keen on people who advertise the fact, but that can be said of anyone flaunting any kind of lifestyle.

If two people want to get married, let them... I can understand religious opposition to an extent, but not everyone gets married through a church or religious establishment...

Bush knows he can win votes by opposing gay marriages... in the end these kind of tactics are used by governments all over the world... unfortunatly it is fair play in the political world.

I didnt realise the intense christianity in america until i lived there....if the bible says it is wrong THEN IT IS WRONG!

It's like not understanding why some religions dont eat pork. Although homosexuality is no longer an issue in our country we are VERY liberal compared to americans....all of my arguments in america end with...."oh but your just a fucking liberal" ugh drives me mad! thankfully most of my american friends are of the sort that have brains ;)

I like to think that I do respect religious views... I admire people who have the guts to believe in something. The problem is people interpret religious writings in many different ways... this leads to problems, almost every religion has different groups and offshoots that bicker and fight. The Bible can be taken many ways, as can the Quran, the Torah etc... thats why I don't like to disrespect certain views as how can we ever know they aren't true? But some people blow things out of proportion and give whole denominations and religions a tarnished image. The film 'Dogma' has a good spin on it when it likens Christianity to an 'idea'... 'you can change an idea' :)

We are far more liberal than the US... we don't have anything on the same scale as the 'Bible Belt'... that place would scare me! But then contrast that with the Mardi Gras and San Francisco... maybe there is hope for them yet! :D

Do you ever kiss girls in public? Is this 'flaunting any kind of lifestyle'?

i don't really mind seeing men in public, wouldn't really class that as flaunting their lifestyle...

i can't be doing with overly camp gay men tho...

they just annoy the fuck out of me, not really their sexuality but their personality i think...

I didn't mean it like that at all... affection is not something anyone should have a problem with. Its when people act in such a way that they are just acting and not being who they really are... for example 'overly camp' people... campness is fine but there is a level where it becomes completely fake. :)

    @liam... :screw: ;)

sorry maybe i didnt make that clear....more neighbours and people i know rather than friends....

But as it happens I live in a born again christian trailer park owned by the multi billionaire crouch family who owns the trinity broadcasting network. The trailer park is seperated in to 2 halves...the C section (christians) and the T section (trash), so its a cross between bible reading groups of 60+ french canadians and crack smoking rednecks (ok maybe rednecks would be giving the wrong idea...they are nice people most of them) so as you can see i get to experience varying types of americans without even leaving my neighbourhood :) lol

i lived in a heavily jewish area working +living on a jewish country club.. zero tolerance on anything remotley risque.. jews have a massive influence in the government dont they?

i was suprised about the people you talked abouts opinions because miami + s.florida appears to be extremley gay tolerant.. tho this is probs just thru my eyes travelling...

off subject - it was also one hell of a scary bus/monorail ride into downtown from the everglades... never been so scared in my entire life - and that was after 4 months of living in new york gettin subways!

or i might just be soft as shite :D

south beach and the tourist areas are very gay tolerant....its like an extension of key west. But your average floridian tends to not venture down that way.

People always look at me in shock when i say i use the tri rail and mono shuttle....think im crazy....but ive never felt threatened round there? lol...you just have to adopt a "i'm not a tourist" kind of look about ya
