Britain tightens terrorist "laws" and gets its own FBI

One for the daytime crew :)

The past few days have seen the news (bbc1 breakfast @ 6am :) ) talking about how the "government" is trying to tighten laws on terrorists to allow the level of proof needed to lock up a terror "suspect" to be reduced.

Essentially this means more than ever, your own government can throw you in prison indefinately if it thinks you have a couple of firecrackers stuffed in your undies, or if they see you wearing those trainers with flashing lights in the heels (potential semtex bombs)

In other insanity - We suddenly have the need for our own "FBI" which will go around chasing "human trafficers" who bring in chinese, albanian etc etc people en masse illegally. They timed that one well eh? Quite ironic since its our own policy that is letting in a flood of people anyways - now the powers that be see fit to spend our money on a new bunch of bobbies to hunt them down again.

Its been said all before but it amazes me that on a weekly basis our entire way of life see's even more changes and restrictions, pushing us closer and closer to a new world order... just because a few people crashed 2 planes into some buildings nearly 3 years ago. :(

    There... i was bored :)

On the terror issue I would rather we were pro-active than reactive.

But terrorist attacks are a real threat - these restrictions are to try and stop it happening again. I'd hardly say they are going over the top

YES ... as the Spence said, I'm glad were doing something.

You didn't hear may complaints from the people supposed to be travelling on the scheduled flights that got cancelled a few weeks ago.

Whether you like it or not this event changed the world. If we just went on as if nothing happened people would start to ask what we are doing to prevent such a tragedy from happening again.

The answer to that is .... "we cant"

Terrorism like that cant be prevented IN MY OPINION, which is the whole reason we have Iraq in the mess it is now, and its entirely possible for anyone with a can of Sarin, or a Transit Van full of fertiliser to wipe out a large number of people in the blink of an eye.

I would have said the best cure to terrorism is to treat the cause of it... and not the symptoms.

    ;)

Doesn't mean we shouldn't try to prevent it.

How do you know this?? Do you have info from British intelligence to say we have never stopped a terrorist attack.

Eh, no... but that is no reason for me not to support being proactive in preventing it.

Remember the Zebbrugge ferry disaster or Hillsborough --- what did these disasters provoke? They provoked preventative action to stop anything similar happening again. This is NO different, your just too hung up on your mission against Blair, Bush & the "today's world" you keep posting about.

    EXACTLY

There's been terrorist attacks in Britian before -- the party conference hotel for example, the IRA bombings all over are others.
