I've spent the last three days filling out an application form for a promotion at work. Think I put together a really strong case and had a very good chance of getting it. Deadline for the application is tomorrow.

Took my form in for my manager to write her comments on, only to be told "Sorry, haven't got time to look at it today, I'm really busy but I'm sure something else could come up in the future..."!!!

Only reason it's been left this late is she's been off on the sick recently!!!

Really pissed off, jobs like that don't come up very often & I'm missing out because my gaffer's "too busy" to do it today before going on leave tomorrow!!!

Anything similar happened to anyone else?

Could you not explain the situation to your company and see if there's owt they can do?

I wouldn't take that as an acceptable answer like!!

Go back, say you have put alot of work in and that you have been unable to see her as she has been off sick.

That should not affect you though, that's a total shitter.

I would deffo go back and see her, if she can't be arsed to do it, tell her that you will be going to the union about it!

Nah, can't send it without her part completed. I've applied to the panel for an extension but it's been turned down as it's not "exceptional circumstances"! Apparently, I should've arranged my time better (not taking into consideration that work sent me down to Loughborough at short notice this week) and got it done before today!

I think I'll be speaking to my manager's boss tomorrow (she's not in today either!) and might well take it to the union. Doubt it'll do any good though but you never know! If anything, it might get her a ticking off and hopefully she'll not put anyone else in this situation again.

Really disappointed, would've meant a decent pay rise & good prospects for further development.

Kick off big style. If she's been off sick, how the hell were you supposed to get it to her beforehand? Talk to your union, talk to the next person up the chain of command, basically do anything you can.

If that happened to me, i`d tell her where she can stick her job and sue the ass off her, I know I wouldnt wanna work for someone with that attitude. Also, file a complaint to the highest person you can speak to in the company.
