Another 1 goes... Norwich Union moves jobs to Asia Norwich Union is to move a further 950 jobs to India and Sri Lanka, the UK's biggest insurer has announced.
Things like this will be the second 'miners strike' effect for regions like the north east, which rely on call centres and other similar jobs to keep a huge number of people from our region in jobs .... totally shocking and unfair. There should be laws against the export of jobs like these to countries with less than similar standards, or at least some kind of legislation to stop hundreds/thousands of people being made jobless with the stroke of a pen.
argh this is so annoying. when i was working over the summer our payroll department had been relocated to Bangalore. The phone people were supposed to have good english but most didnt even have a decent grasp of the language which makes life very difficult when you are trying to make changes to someone's wages/invoicing etc. Most communication had to be done by email which is time consuming and irritating, especially when you get an email back saying something like "i have done the needful" rant over:angel2:
It may get people in Asia out of the Nike sweat shops etc but what happens when 2touch in Sunderlnad & Northern Rock move a few jobs to Asia? Where will the likes of Oasis & Broony go
The indians I spoke to on the tiscali helpline were far more helpful than your average BRIT call centre worker. Call centre staff should have got a decent education/trade anyway, it's there own fault for being lazy!
