I think people are being too harsh on the bloke. Fair enough he brought it on himself but people still should show respect.

His life took a sad downward turn. He was once the man that every bloke would love to be, money, cars, women etc. But drink ruined all that. Do u really think he wanted to die that way?

fucking hell. Addictions arent something to just overlook and think "so fuck, its his/her fault" . When you live a certain lifestyle with lots of money and status. Things must be a lot different.

RIP George Best. Still one of the greatest players to ever grace a football pitch. Remember the bloke for what he was, not what he became.

    fucking wankers

I hate the so fuck it was his fault attitude, he had an addiction for fucks sake and had alot of problems, you have famous people commiting suicide, should we just say fuck all them too because its their fault? Or what if one of youse went out clubbing dropped a drug and died, bet youse would love to be remembered as a daft twat for overdosing instead of being remembered for who you were.

Yes he shot a liver which was giving to him after he promised not to drink, but unfortunately the addiction was too much and he couldn't handle it. But emagine the upraw if the hospital had said no fuck off George we dont think you deserve another chance, he died making sure any organ that was alright was donated back to help someone else ffs.

People should remember him for what a great footballer he was and not for the problems he had :)

I fully sympasize with anyone that has a drug addiction.

I don't however have any respect whatsoever for a bloke that was known to beat his wife.

Not all alcoholics take it upon themselves to beat their wives.

It was because he was a cunt.

I'm sick of hearing about it.

One one hand we have george best, who fucked up his own life, twice, on his own. Fair enough addiction is addiction, but so. edit: To add to Peters point - somebody will have died because they couldn't get a liver - which was then wasted! What about that person who got the "oh i am sorry but there is nothing more we can do for you" - nobody stopped for a moment to think about that poor sod.

On the other, we have Richard Burns,a former World Rally Champion who has just died, at the age of 34, from a vriulent brain tumor over which he had no control...and he gets a 10 second news slot before it's 'and back to george best.' And all because he was a sodding footballer years ago.

Fair enough it's sad to many but theres much worse things. The death of Richard Burns is just one example of something far more tragic. It's him who should be getting the attention.

i know, but alcohol effects people in differant ways, ozzy osbourne tried to kill his wife when he was drunk and didnt even know anything about it, yet he's still all over tv and respected for what hes accomplished in life.

yeh i read this on the tv at the gym, was shocked aswell, but at the end of the day you would expect george best to be more of a shock because he was more well known, maybe its not right but its what happens.

the thing is before "bestie" popped his cloggs i really hated him for the way he wasted his second chance at life with the liver transplant, when he actually got a doner when its really hard to get one in the first place, but then when everyone is kicking off saying drink killed him is so far from the truth he actually had lung and kidney infection with the anti rejection pills he was taking for his liver thats what finished him!!!

even though i HATE man u "bestie" was by a mile the best UK player ever......R.I.P

ps. also saw that about the former rally champ. and the reason he hardly got any coverage because about 2.5BILLION ppl have heard of george best thats why!!!

And?? The guy didnt ruin his own life and was only 34 years old and an English WORLD champion in his sport....he deserves more than a 10 second slot IMO. Just because his name wasn't as well known doesn't make him mean any less to many many people. He was a true inspiration and role model to any young English rally drivers.

I don't know much about George Best but was he at one point the greatest player in the world? And the first Englishman to be so??

It's just it annoys me, because rallying is my favourite sport and thus Richard Burns was somewhat of a rally hero of mine, along with Colin McRae.

His death is far more tragic, nobody can argue that.

Back in September at Rally GB, Micheal Park of Pugeout was killed in action - he was on the bbc sport headline for about 10 minutes, and was replaced with "Roy Keane breaks fingernail"

    It's only sodding football.
