I sorted mine out the other day n sorted into labels but my collection isnt huge. If its huge, say over many years of collection, u could have a box for each year n then sorted into labels within them. Just a thought :)

I tend to keep them in order as to when I got them. But every time I pull a load to play out they never get put back in the same places cos im a lazy fukker.

anyone who has seen mr revels records will know he has got a very sophisticated and complex sorting system; this basically consists of having big daves records in a big pile on his right speaker and his own slightly smaller pile on his left speaker...

    buy a record box johnny?

I reckon genre's the best way- All me progressive stuffs on the left, then all house, then trance, hard house, classics. all the stuff that im not bothered bout playin or cheesy stuff is on the far right and my 25 happy hardcore tunes are stuck down the left between my speaker and desk...

By movin genre order u can go from one set to the other without having to search through 200 records. At least that's the idea behind it- the reality is that about 50 vinyls stay under the desk, the other 150 all over me bedroom floor for as long as I can stand, or until me ma  comes dangerously close to standing on them

Everyone has there own way that works but:

if you have a couple of different styles chronological or alphabetical are often the best approach. Bigger collections or those with loadsa different styles would, I think, be best off going for genre - with each broken up into artist. Either way, the bigger the colloection the bigger the head fuck (and you still always seem to end up with a big pile on the floor that's 'waiting to be filed')

its all a case of proper discipline i think, and takin the extra ytime needed to put them back in the right place....... but easier said than done when ya lookin for that quality tune to knock out next and u have about 10 seconds left to mix!!!!:spangled:

Ive spied a circle here: If its "easier said than done when ya lookin for that quality tune to knock out next and u have about 10 seconds left to mix!!!!" -Tino Well, the answer to that is: Sort out all your records n then when you need to find one in ten seconds it'll be 100 times easier to find. But then its easier said than done when ya lookin for that quality tune to knock out next and u have about 10 seconds left to mix!!!! But then you should sort your records out, although its easier said than done when ya lookin for that quality tune to knock out next and u have about 10 seconds left to mix!!!! So then you should sort your records out, although its easier said than done when ya lookin for that quality tune to knock out next and u have about 10 seconds left to mix!!!!

    Get the point?? :D :D
