Real tinitus never goes away - Anne Savage has got it in her right ear (maybe I shouldn't know that much information about it lol). Loads of DJ's get it cause they're head phones have got to be so loud. I used to get it when I first started going out but I never get it anymore.

Best thing to do is get some ear plugs - probably sounds stupid cause u want to listen to the music but u can get ones that let in certain frequencys and block out the noise if that makes any sense. :D

    :monkey:

U can get some decent ones from Richer Sounds

It is possible to get ultra small ear defenders custom made. They sit just inside your ear and you can barely see them. You can still hear peeps talking to you but it cuts down the mid and high frequencies that really fuck your ears.

Ask your doctor about it or search on google, I think they are about £80.

If you are in clubs alot you should really consider buying some or you will end up half deaf like me!

Alternatively, get some standard yellow foam ones, cut them to size with a pair of scissors, and there you have it, two eaplugs which can remain hidden, fillter out the high frequency sounds which aggrivates tinitus, and still hear peeps/music so you have a mint night.

I wear ear plugs anytime I go clubbing - no-one noticed even when i was talking to them.. in fact iot was easier to hear them above the music.

Tinnitus is gonna be the most common affliction for our generation in years to come, there's no cure for it so once you've got it, you've got it for good - which can cause all sorts of psycological problems :(

I remember a weekend a while back when the ringing just wouldn't stop and thought it was there for good. Was shit scared and thought I was gonna go mental.

As Rob said, the best way to reduce the risk is invest in some high quality ear plugs. Alternatively, when you're out try and avoid sticking your head right next to the speakers all night long (or the annoying fuck with the samba whistle). It's the high pitched stuff that makes the mess. Obvious really, but when you're tanked up logic can go oot the window.

A recent experiment also showed that if you go and chill out somewhere relatively quiet for 15-20 mins over the course of the night - preferably somewhere where there's no music playing at all - you can drastically reduce the risk of adverse hearing probs.

Most of the DJ's who've played on the circuit for the past ten years or so have it in some form and it's almost become some kind of rights of passage thing - like you must be a serious dj if you've managed to develop it, but talk to any of them and they tell you how frustrating it is.

    Rave safe kiddies

thanx 4 the advice kidda's, ive been looking into it as well....the most popular thing is these herb drug things that are supposed to help it, they are a stupid price and will probly make no difference anyway! i seen a thing about them putting a metal vvibrating stick on the back of your ear which is tuned to make the same sound as what you are hearing, but isnt a total cure, only lasts for a few hours....so hopefully it wont be to long into the future untill they have a cure.....but it would be nice if they could hurry up..... :p

Just a quick biology lesson (I'm sure you probably all already know this).

In your ear you have lots and lots of tiny hairs. Each one of these hairs picks up a slightly different frequency (note).

The ones that pick up lower frequencies (bass and low mid) are quite sturdy so they don't get damaged easily. The hairs that pick up mid high and high frequencies (usually treble and vocals) are quite flimsy in comparison and can easily be damaged.

Once you damage them that's it, they never recover. You will not be able to hear that particular frequency as well ever again, so be careful!

You may or may not get Tinnitus but each time you leave a club and can hear ringing that damage is permanent. The sound does not go away, your brain just rejects the signal after so many hours/days so you can't hear it anymore.

The sound (ringing) is still there and you will have lost some of you sensitivity for that particular ringing note you could hear!

Any doctors think/know I'm full of crap please correct me, as far as I know this is correct.

Sorry if I put you all on a downer!
