Can you get bigger capacity DVD-R's than 4.7gb? Trying to burn some movies but they just exceed 4.7gb :(

hmm, are you doing 'video cd' or proper dvd?

    video cd should be 2,

dvd should be one usually, although you might like to try and lower the quality ever so slightly to fit more on?

Tried that (in Nero) but that was when it was just over the limit.

oh yeah...is that when somewhere during the film you get a freeze frame effect where the layers are changing from one to the other?

 I've never noticed that like - I thought they read both layers at once, or am I mistaken? Hmm...

Use DVD shrink - dual layer discs are still expensive, plus you'll need a dual-layer burner if you don't already have one.

im sure it has happened a few times when watching films, in the same place, and when i asked mr fee, he said it was them changing the layer they were reading from - only a split second it takes though. (maybe he was talking shit though and there was just some fluff on the dvd!)

on some DVD players you get the 'layer change' where it pauses for a frame or 2 sometimes as it swaps layers... (technically, the laser just re-focuses... meh)

When your copying DVDs (which i presume you are you thieving pikey) sometimes even after you've shrinked or DVD21'd it - it's still VERY slightly bigger - just remove the highest set of matching vobs... it'll only be some extra bit you'll never watch....

yeah dodgy's right the technology called blue ray the burners use a blue laser which is thinner that the normal red laser, so they can fit 8.9GB on a DVD, they are quite expensive though still, so just find some software to compress the file a bit

I got past a problem like this the other week..

Use nero to write the dvd video files but output them via the image recorder option..

Then download something like deamon tools or alcohol 120 and mount the image onto a virtiual drive.

Then launch dvd shrink and make it shrink the vob files on the virtual drive..

This will then shrink the files enough to fit on a dvd with 4.7 capacity!

I managed to fit 6hrs on 1 disc with this method :D

just use dvd shrink and get rid of audio files in foreign languages and some of the other shit. either that or get a dual layer dvd recorder or if youve got one get som dual layer discs

lol.. I remember reading about another format that was being developed.

It used different pantone shades to distinguish between layers and could hold terabytes of data.. still a few years off yet.

The method I mentioned definetly works.. I squeezed a 3 disc cesar gracie BJJ compilations onto 1 disc.

Just makes it handier.. I don't have to swap discs now :)

Will be a bit pointless as ultimately it's graphics memory now that holds things back.
