If you honestly feel that strongly about charity then why don't you sell all the stuff that you don't really need, like the telivision, your hi fi, get a cheaper house and donate it all to a human charity of your choice? Serious question. Some people do.

That's not quite my point - you and I and all the other prole scum aren't at fault. It's the very rich people that are at fault. A tiny proportion of the worlds population own most of the wealth. The whole basis of capitalism is to keep those people at the top, and keep everyone else near the bottom. And then make us feel guilty about what's bad in the world.

The Widescreen tv example you've put is quite ironic tho - waste £1000 on summinck that'll make your zombie-like consumerism worse. :D

    your missing the point.

the point is some people care more for animals than they do for humans - which is fucked up!

Fuck me, everyones getting on there high horses here! If somebody wants to donate to an animal charity, then it's upto them! It's there hard earned money, and they can do what they want with it. If the Tsunami hadn't of just happened, most of these comments wouldn't of even been made!

If I won the lottery I'd buy some sort of business, just to keep myself busy, wouldn't be a fultime manager or anything, but I'd be there a bit.

I'd travel the world, there is so many places I want to see, would take me quite a while I'd imagine!:D

Sort all my family out obviously, and buy a nice house up here somewhere.

No, you're missing the point. ;)

You quite clearly would rather have a lot of valuables which you don't need, than donate that money as aid to people who really need it. Isn't that fucked up?

You can't exactly deny it, otherwise you would have already donated the majority of your earnings to charity.

To me that is fucked up and even I do it.

I was just expanding on your point a little bit. Most people are guilty of not helping when they could very easily do so.

    no - not at all.

you are doing what a lot of people do - making people like me (ppl who work for a living) feel guilty about what I buy with the money i earn.....

as mike says its people who have MILLIONS AND MILLIONS in the bank, more money than they will ever need who that applies to......

You realise that most of these charities for humans pay there executive staff 100's of thousands of pounds every year? What could be done with that money?

You can throw as much money as you like to cancer research but there may never be a cure for it.

My main point about joining a local animal charity was that I could actually physically do some thing to help. I cant research cancer, I cant feed the world. I can however clean out cat shit and brush pony's etc.

Unless you are all blind and stupid, you can see that my post read that I would donate to charity as well as running my own. If it bothers you that it would be a animal one, then good :screw: I'd love to see what your priorities would be if you actually did have 5 mil in the bank.

I donate money monthly to around five charities, including the NSPCC and cancer research but also 2 animal ones. I suppose you all donate to more do you?

That's true - but most people are conditioned from birth to be consumers, hence why they would like a mini-ipod rather than to help stop a baby dying in Africa. It's not their fault, it's how a capitalist society survives by indoctrination.

I'm not trying to make you feel guilty about anything I'm trying to make you see a point (and weren't you were trying to make cookee feel guilty for wanting to start an animal charity ;) ).

    Look at it this way:

People are starving in other countries and need money.

Very rich people have loads of money that they don't need and blow it all on items that they don't need.

You also have money which you spend on things which aren't an essential part of living. i.e you would not die without them

It might not seem like it but do you REALLY need a lot of the things that are in your house? To survive alls that you really need is a house, with central heating, running water and food. How many extras have you bought to satisfy your life?

I am not trying to make you donate your earnings to charity, just see that this holier than thou attitude really doesn't cut the mustard considering you could quite easily make an impact on peoples lives if you really wanted.

I know that I've got a load of stuff that I don't really need, which could have been better spent on human life.

After all, " there's millions of suffering humans all over the world....CRAZY!!!!!!!!". ;)

That's exactly the point I'm trying to make. We're all guilty of it. It's not exactly mutually exclusive to those who want to donate to animal charities if they win the lottery. :p

   and you stiiiiiiiiiiiilllll miss the point!!

firstly i was not having a go at rach AT ALL.

secondly, u still fail to see what i am saying. people like ourselves, who work hard for a living and dont earn ridiculous amounts of money give when we can. however, as mike pointed out, there are people who earn millions each year - and have even more in their banks, just sat there earning interest. these are the people who SHOULD be giving more to help HUMANS.

    it aint rocket science

The point I'm trying to make to you is that we are not guilty of it. It is the wealthy who are guilty by keeping everyone else poor and making us feel guilty.

You could sell all the possessions you don't really need, but where would that leave you in this society? People are conditioned to look down on those around them that are not consuming as much as they should. Our society is built around a self-sufficient model of capitalism and 'democracy' that keeps things as it is. We live our lives to work and consume, nothing else, all for the benefit of those at the top and the society as a whole. You have to stay within that model or you'll be getting looked down on for not having the most expensive bouffant haircut.

@ Cookee - I back you 100%, just hijacking the thread with my usual subnormal ideals. :)

I'd still invest the £5million in biscuits, then find some way to bring the biscuit system down. Power to the people. :D

No I haven't missed your point at all, you just need to embrace my facts.

In an idealistic world, all of us would give what we could to help out those who really need it, including the rich, instead of wasting money on things that we technically do not need.

You are currently using a computer to satisfy your boredom. If you honestly give that much of a shit about all of those starving children, sell it and donate the money towards food supplies for Suddan. Don't wait for the rich to do something about it, we might be waiting a while.

I know I'm certainly not going to, but at least I admit that my needs and wants seem to come first.

These are my facts. Embrace them like your own.
