    Club advertising

Saw this on the Ahead board and got me curious.......

'what do ppl think is best way to advertise to clubbers?

flyers? Posters? txt message? postal newsletter? radio?

would be interested to know ppl's opinions on how they would like to find out about upcoming nights & info at a club?'

    What do u reckon?

It's a very difficult one......Fly postering is very effective and probs the most successful but also illegal and Newcastle City Council have really hammered down on it!

IMO I would say the next best thing is email/text alerts BUT you have to get that information out of people at some point (on the night, from your website etc. or buy lists off other people).

Word of mouth is good... I've went to some really happening events that haven't been advertised at all... :)

Flyers are fine to leave in any shop/cafe/etc if you have permission. In Newcastle, you're supposed to have a council-issued pass to hand out flyers, it costs summinck like £30/£40 a quarter for one. If you're nice to the promoter/doorstaff, most clubs will let you exit flyer.

What are peoples thoughts on flyers?

Personally, I do not think they are that effective.

Still, thinking about getting some done for Desyn.

Flyers have an effectivess rate of about 2-5% in general - give out 1000 flyers and get an extra 20 to 50 people... But the best way to use them is by talking to the person first before giving them the flyer - take a load with you next time you're out and try it.

Can see how that is best when you've got a list of interested people but not much use for a new night

Unwanted Text messages are as annoying as email spam and hopefully will be banned in the upcoming spam laws.

I agree that fly postering is the best way.

Dont wanna be getting big fines for it though.

99% of my spur of the moment night are snared by a well placed poster.

Its also the cheapest and hits the widest audience.

I sure know what I would use if I was putting a night on.

Say sorry to the council for me...

I agree, any company that sends any kind of spam should be heavily fined.
