It depends on how much you earn, basic rate is 10%, higher rate is 22%, heather would b getting taxed by 22% and NI gets taken off as well...

    well done heather btw:)

pays for all 'free' public services, but there not really free cos u pay so much tax, goes to stuff liek schools, medical stuff, police everything like that...

think u also have to pay council tax as well?

You dont pay any tax on the first £5000 ish you earn in a year.

Then you pay 10% on the next £1500 ish.

Then you pay 22% on anything above that.

Then theres higher rates, but they dont kick in till way above that.

I figured it out that about 16 - 20% of my wages go between tax and national insurance

No score for working in Shildon though :p

Yes it will affect it, you probably won't get taxed a lot for the first 2 months if you have no earnings so far this year.

Tax is all bollocks, when I start my new job I'll technically be working for myself so I have to calculate my own tax...should be fun! :s

If you think about an average quid you earn it's on top how much tax you pay.

Lets say I earn £100, before I even get the money I will pay about 25%( income tax & NI), leaving me with £75. I then want to actually spend it so I have to pay vat, leaving me with about £65, never mind if I want to buy wine or petrol!

If you factor in council tax etc then you usually pay over 50% tax on your wages.
