The Monkey is £15 to get in or £10 if you have a members card (which costs £5). It is unlicensed and only sells cans of pop, water, tea, and crisps. Your supposed to be 16 to get in, but I've never seen anyone knocked back. I would say the average age is nearer 17/18, and much higher after a Hangar 13. The bouncers search everyone, but only for weapons. It is nowhere near as bad as people make out. I've never seen any real trouble and the bouncers take no shit. If you decide to start a fight then you will get severly beaten by them. This keeps the atmosphere calm(ish). I've been there about five times, have had no trouble. and this is me we are talking about, piercings and all.

The music is bouncy and fast as fuck (Makina), and the kids on the dancefloor really go for it. No way smack heads could keep up. I have seen people doing lungs in the middle of the seating area, but never have I seen anyone shooting up. When it was rumoured that the kids favourite, MC Stompin, was a smackhead (lives in Darlo now BTW  ) many people I spoke to were disgusted and nicknamed him Smackhead number 1!

Not exhagerating at all, a lot of the people that get in there are under 16.

Just to clear a few things up about the monkey!

I am both a DJ and an MC and have worked at the monkey on many occassions from when it opened in 99 right through to my last gig there which was about a six weeks ago.

In that whole time I have NEVER been offered any kind of drugs on entry or by any of the bouncers etc.

As with any club its pretty safe to say that if your looking for drugs you will find them but that goes with the territory of any dance culture.

It is a private members club which means anyone can get in with a members card or non members can be signed in. However there are ways around it if your not a member meaning you'll still get in by paying extra at the door.

The price is 10 for members or 15 for non members unless its a special like a bank holiday where you can expect to pay around 20 quid!

The majority of people that go there like other clubs take pills, speed and it is not uncommon to smell the aroma of a spliff as you are walking around.
I have seen people gouging in there before, possibly off smack but its not a common thing to see and I doubt very much that there are people selling it in there.

I have never known of anything like poppers coming through the air vents!

I am not defending the place by any means as I personaly would not go there for a night out and even when I am working I dont hang about after my set because is really is not my scene!

This is just my view on the place after 5 years of actually seeing it first hand.

I hope this clears things up for you all.

p.s. I have heard from a good source that the club will be getting closed down in the not too distant future!
