The Passion of the Christ

There are many versions of the bible... this is linked with the many different offshoots of christianity... catholics, C of E, methodists, presbytarians, jehovah's witnesses... the list is endless.

Jewish groups will protest because christianity, and anything glorifying christianity, is against the jewish faith... christianity starts where judaism stops... the new testament.

The first two were rhetorical questions.

What i meant was, why all the outrage. Mel Gibson does not claim to have made a documentary. It is merely an artist's impression of a story over 2000yrs old.


On a seperate note, i've no idea where i've heard this, but i thought hollywood was predominantly funded by jewish families/businesses? There may be no truth in this though.

As for the controversy... i'm going to wait til I see it and then make my mind up... i'm sure joe and scruf can give us a good insight into the inner workings and politics regarding america and hollywood

Hollywod was first funded by Jews, but this was years ago... The hollywood we see today is controlled by big business; companies like microsoft have huge stakes in hollywood... As for jobs although there are jews in powerful positions (ceo's of disney and such) there are even more caucasion ceo's.... .

The myth that jews run hollywood and america is a dated line used by nazi's to stir up anti-semiticism.

It's in Latin and Aramaic (sp?), with sub titles. Mel Gibson considered deleting the line: "His blood is on us, on our children." The line is still spoken in the film but there is no subtitle for it.

to be fair - anyone who messes with religion risks upsetting a lot of people...

in this case tho - he also stands to make a lot of money and to be honest, i doubt he guves a fuck who he upsets as long as he can get away with it!!!!

I get what you are saying but changing something like a religious story goes a lot deeper and will risk hurting wast amounts of people. Its different to him making a scottish peasent into a Hollywood hero... Jesus is a comletely different kettle of (loaves and) fishes... boom boom.

Mel Gibsons father is a holocaust denier and active anti-semite...

When gibson was questioned about the holocaust see how he answers:

Notice how he doesn't actually awknowledge the holocaust happened, instead he gives a problomatic reply going on about how millions of peolpe died and "some of them were jews".

This isnt' a money making film - this is a religious film... It was made for a purpose.. I don't know if its anti-semitic, I'll reserve my judgement till I see the film.

Don't know if anyone has mentioned this yet because I didn't read the full thread but I don't see why there was all the commotion when they released "The Life of Brian"....that's what really happened...isn't it?

But back on topic...I saw a trailer for this movie when I was at the Odeon last, and thought it looked pretty crap. I know people are saying it's more religious and not "money making" but I don't agree...for a while now Hollywood has been out of ideas and are just remaking old ideas (Italian Job, Ocean's Eleven, Lion King 3..wherever the hell that came from!) and now they've just went stupidly far and decided to make a Hollywood Blockbuster out of the Bible.

They're probably loving all the controversy because it's even more publicity! I don't know anything about the film to be honest, so if you have hard evidence that I'm completely wrong, feel free to knock me down
