What are your thoughts on animal testing?

Taken from another board as I always find this debate interesting.......

'been thinking about this recently as the animal rights campaginers have been plastering propaganda around my uni about how the terrible japanese people at yamanouchi are murdering dogs.

in fairness i'm slightly sceptical about cosmetic testing, but for medical research i think its invaluable.

just really wondering where people stand on this.'

I have to agree that cosmetic testing on animals has no place in society, especially when there are other alternatives. Im still undecided on testing on animals for medical research tho....

probably medical research for very important things that we havent as yet found a cure for eg cancer. i would agree with that, but cosmetic tesing no way, who cares if your mascara blinds you? pay for somone dumb enough to test it, those ppl are always out there.
there should be guidelines as to how cruel something is, to the animal. is there?

Animal testing is wrong for cosmetic reasearch however if the cure to cancer was discovered from a mouse or rat or whatever it would save millions of lives so i too am not sure where i stand on this !

It has it's benefits to the medical soceity without doubt, but the thought is very unplesent. Use charvers instead?

like u say, medical testing - fair enough - cosmetic - it's pointless. not just for vanity.

i wouldn't want to be involved - but i can see it's validity.

Fuck that, we've risen to the top of the food chain, in total command of the planet. We are ruining all natural resources we can lay our hand to, and we have already wiped out whole species of creatures through hunting for food/ornament.

With that in mind, how the fuck can protesters have the fucking nerve to stop me on Northumberland Street and ask me to sign their petition?! No, you stupid cunts, i don't care about a fucking rabbit, or even a bastard lab rat. If it stops me going blind when i use a shampoo, then get more of the bastards in the labs i say! Stop fucking whinging about animal-testing, we use them for food, why not use them to save ourselves possible harm. Stupid hippy cunts!

I think it is wrong if the animals are cute and furry.....but i dont mind if they are testing things on nasty animals, like wasps for example.
