its been in tpapers for about 6months... all that outcry stuff about the green market being bulldozed an th no gud pikeys loosing their jobs is to do with selfridges... theres loads of stuff happening, their revamping the shit(er) part of eldon square, extending the flower shop (eldon garden), and opening shops all around the 'hippy green'...

About time too, that area needs sorting out. I walk past where the 'George and Dragon' was every day and it permanently stinks of piss, the green could be well nice if the architecture is smartened up a bit, and the dirty goths are swept back down the sewers.

The goths are just about the only interesting people in the whole of newcastle...... they certaintly make a change from the drones buzzing in and out of the shops, consuming like a swarm of crickets.

That sounds more like the charvers who bother the goths.

At the end of the day they are young people, and it doesnt matter if your a charve, or a goth - they end up doing stuff that you described above/

Goths aint the problem, teenagers are - shoot them all pls.

this is great news for the north east. with the new psyche store in boro, harvey nicholls in leeds and a newcastle selfridges north eastern fashionistas will have great clothes available on their doorstep without having to negotiate rather cuntish jumper folders in the likes of strand, cruise etc.. whose clothes often lack any real style anyway.

a big well done to selfridges for choosing the toon. :)

who cares?! there's two universities (=students who have large disposable incomes) and more and more businesses coming here. Plus they'll get the scottish market. They'll make an absolute fortune up here.

The number/type of shops are a direct representation of the needs and means of the people who live there.

Im surprised the town can support Strand AND Cruise to be honest, but hey.

    WRONG

Newcastle has the highest unsatisfied demand from retailers of any city in the UK.

There is a lack of prime space wwithin the city centre. Because of this, rents in Newcastle are second only to Oxford Street.

In summary, every big name wants in, but we dont have the space for them. The idea is redeveloping that end of Eldon Square, plus doing something with the Odeon and the rest of Pilgrim Street, should help.
